Super glue?

We're at the beach and just noticed that some strip came loose, at the front rock guard.

It seems that it's glued in there normally. Can I just use super glue or should I use something else?

You certainly can give it a try.

It is normally held in place with double sided tape, but it has to be strong tape to withstand the exposure to the elements... we had to re-attached a section of ours that came loose...tried several tapes and finally had success with 3M exterior double-faced tape made for attaching exterior signs, etc, and it is the same width as the track the strip fits into. It's not going anywhere now.

Hi, 3M double sided tape. The black or dark grey one. Same tape that cars use to hold their body side mouldings on with.

It is originally stick on with the 3M body molding tape. WALMART Carey's it in the auto depth near the body work stuff. Like4$ a roll. Clean off the old as the new will not stick to itself.

So according to that video Airstream ought to give up on rivets. Stick the whole thing together and eliminate a lot of sources of leaks.

Would I get one, two, or three "strips" instead of rivets for posting here?

I agree, tape it all together, Maybe rivet decals to keep the classic look.

Yes...I forgot about that tape. It's what the body shop used to replace my trim after my Buick's complete down to the metal restoration. Only one minor problem....'they' stuck the namplate on one fender 1" lower than on the other side. I'm the only one so far that noticed that...driving me even though one would have to circle the car very fast to notice it. It's stuck on REALLY good.

Hi, Neil. The guys at the body shop remove emblems that are stuck on with two sided tape by using fishing string. Loop both ends of the fishing string, and pull in a sawing action between the trim piece and the body. They say it doesn't hurt the paint or the part they are removing. After you get the part off you can clean the tape off.

Thanks Bob. I may try that.....someday.....it is getting to be a less of an issue for me. The body shop owner, a friend and neighbor, would correct the issue. I had mentioned it to him and he looked at me with a 'Give me a break'! look. Currently he is building a second 455 that I had as an eventual replacement for my current aging engine.

I went to WalMart and found the "3M molding tape". Now to apply it: I think I'll wait until the strips come loose again.
