Strange Stain on rock guard film

I noticed these strange stains under the plastic film/rock guards. They don't rub out and are under the film. Not sure if I should let it ride or peel and replace. They have also increased in number and size since the first time i noticed them.

Just a guess. It’s likely some sort of oil that was on hands of the guard when installing the film. The sun is discoloring it over time?

Stainless steel shouldn’t rust or anything, it’s just a vanity issue it seems to me. But without looking at it, I may be wrong.

Personally, I’d remove the film and clean it. We don’t have the film on ours, they are meant to be replaced eventually — yes, expensive, but replaceable.

The film is normally removed by the dealer during the PDI.
I would remove it and clean with WD40.
They do look better without it.

Perhaps a metal filing under the film that is showing signs of corrosion?

Yup, looks just like "rail dust" that gets into auto paint. Remove film and polish with stainless steel appliance cleaner.

It's a 22' Sport. No stainless steel rock guard. Just a fairly thick transparent film.

Mine has some staining around the edges but nothing in the middle, very similar in coloring.
