Sticker residue + Flying cutting boards

Dear all,
Just picked up my new AS today and have two initial questions:
#1: I removed manufacturing stickers from the stovetop's aluminum folding cover (4 of them) and one in the shower unit. Three of the 5 came off with no residue left behind but 2 stickers on the folding stovetop left behind sticky stuff. I used the forum's search tool to research how to clean the residue off the aluminum surface without marring the finish and lighter fluid and vegetable oil were 2 popular choices. This was an old thread though and was wondering if there is an update?

#2: My sink is covered with a large round cutting board and someone told me I should keep it tucked away when traveling because a good bump could easily dislodge it. Anyone have advice on making sure it stays where it belongs?
Many thanks!

If I recall, the stove top stickers were the most problematic.

I remember using goof off and then alcohol (I used vodka).

The cutting board becomes a flying saucer on the road. I’ve found mine under the bed and in various other places. I put it on the bed before moving the trailer.

After goofing off and using vodka, how did you remove the stickers?

Another, less volatile sticker Remover is “Rapid Remover” used in the vinyl sign trade, available on Amazon

Any time you run into a "gummy" residue, whether it's pine sap on the top of your trailer or masking tape / sticker residue on windows, metal, countertops, etc., give Mineral Spirits a try first. It's VERY mild, will not harm painted surfaces you will encounter in your trailer, and leaves behind very little residue which if needed can be cleaned up with a soapy sponge or alcohol.

I told my wife she might as well put the cutting board on the floor. That’s where it’s going to end up anyway...

Goof off works on the sticker removal. WD40 helps remove the sticky residue. Soap and water clean up after that.

I slide the cutting boards for the double sinks under the mattress while in transit.

We virtually never use the plastic cutting board that came with the AS. It stays under the sink. I usually use olive oil on a paper towel for stickey residue. Takes a little more time, but it's gentle and easy to clean up.

Goo-Be-Gone (probably similar to using some kind of oil or WD-40)

Wd-40

Do NOT use goof off. It can remove painted surfaces. The safest residue remover is WD-40. It is a mild formular and you might take a little more time with several applications using a soft rag or microfiber towel. It won’t harm surface.

As always, test the intended solvent or cleaning agent in an inconspicuous area before using on a visible surface...

Cutting Board resides...

I keep mine under the seat cushion by the dinette. I've only used it once as counter space in three years.

Hm. Now I wonder just where mine is hidden--have not seen it since we acquired the AS.

I use Goo Gone for sticky stuff. Specially on glass like the stove cover. Just a bit on a cloth and little pressure. Re-apply as needed then clean with soap and water. I did the same for any post manufacturing glue I found.

As for the cutting boards, I've never had an issue with them. I assume they both have plastic guides along the bottom that prevents them from sliding off. I guess if you hit a bump hard enough the could pop out but I have not had that happen through many miles of travel.

I also use WD-40 for sticker adhesive. Blot it on, let it soak for a few minutes, then wipe off.

What did you mix the vodka with?
I prefer a little onion juice, shaken, not stirred.
Had my best luck with Tito's.

Worked OK, but after several attempts, I did not care.

So funny!

The vodka also works in place of the rubbing alcohol if you are putting up command hooks or sticky velcro, and forget the rubbing alcohol.

Agree about goof off and painted surfaces. I used on the metal stove cover, but nothing painted.

Also I wanted to share this little tool. It's the Lodge Cast Iron Scraper. It is great to use for a bit of extra "Thumbnail" when scraping off residue.

It's also what we use to go around the window gaskets to get them unstuck when the windows don't want to open.

And of course we use on the skillet.
