Silkaflex?

I washed and Walbernized my 2018 Serenity 28 today. While washing the roof, I noticed a small hole in the caulking on the corner of the front skylight, where it meets the roof. Is Silkaflex the correct product to use for this small repair?

Alpha One Self leveling roof sealant is what I would use. It’s like Dicor but I like it better. Clean area with mineral spirts and then apply.

I used the Sikaflex 221 I believe. Dealer sold it to me. It was like $18 for a tube. I ended up just using the entire tube to reseal right over my leaky spot and just reinforced as much as I could everywhere else. Easy to use. Self leveling. Went right over the old stuff.

Hmmm...nothing goes right over the old stuff and lasts as long as it should or could. Depends on what the old product/new product compatibility is but generally you must remove the old stuff first. In some cases you can clean and prep the old stuff, but Airstream does not use caulk that is really amenable to another layer.

Just following advice of dealer. Only need to remove entire beads when you reseal the roof. Otherwise this product specifically reseals over the top of old product. We are talking about a 2018 getting a small interior leak in late 2019 too, not a 10 year old bead.

How did your roof resealing go? I saw another comment of yours in another thread.

If you are not doing a complete re-seal, and want a quick fix, wipe down with Brakleen and cover the leak with 3M 4412n.(a must-have for the AS tool kit)
I've used it instead of any brand caulk for sealing our AS roof. 8+yrs on our front vent, SFSG👍

I also use 3M 4412 and it is great stuff. I expect it will last as long as I do.

Any PolyEurothane based sealant will do. It stays elastic and goes with the movement of Aluminum in wind, road wind, etc. Lasts along time. I used generic stuff (a lot of it) in white throughout the inside and in grey on the outside.

I have a question for those of you that have used the 3M 4412 tape, where did you buy it? I’m going to reseal our 2017 26U next week and I’ll need two rolls of the 2” wide 18 yds long for the roof and vents. I see Amazon sells it by the case but I don’t need six rolls. Any information will be appreciated.

Yes, that is true, but I asked them about 4412 and that is what it is. When I received it, it is properly marked as 3M 4412. Sometimes you just have to ask for help....

Thank you Larry and Bob, I’ll order it tomorrow. For those of you that have used tape instead of caulking do you have any tips that could help me? I plan on cleaning all the old caulking off all the seams and around the fans, then wiping everything down with a 50-50 mix of water and alcohol per the 3M instructions. I think this will have a much clearer look instead of the big globs of caulking Airstream does at the factory and should last a lot longer too.

Brakleen works very well for final wipe down, won't damage the coating, cleans very well and evaporates almost instantly.
