shower door seal replacement

I have a 2016 Classic 30 and I purchased an extended warranty. Airsteam of Tampa just informed me that the warranty company declined the repair of the shower door seal. My question isn't about the very expensive bumper to bumper warranty I purchased from them but rather about the time I was told it would take to perform the service. Airstream of Tampa told me the part is about $10.00 but it would take "every bit of 4 hours to replace it" at an hourly rate of $150.00. By my calculation, that's an out of pocket repair cost of $600.00 for a $10.00 part. Am I missing something here?

That is my definition of highway robbery. I haven’t tackled my AS door seal but on an SOB it took me 30 minutes tops. If j couldn’t do it myself, I’d find a good mobile RV certified mechanic. They’re around

Is this the seal (gasket/rubber strip) that runs along the bottom of the shower door?

If so, fuggetaboit!! It’s a waste of time to repair/ replace. We did ours twice only to have it shear off again.

Your better off with a shower curtain inside the door.

No leaks and the door stays clean.

Wear and tear items are not typically included in warranties, extended or otherwise. Rubber seals, gadgets, and the like are generally considered wear and tear items.

If you could provide some additional color around what seal in particular is having an issue, folks not he forum can help assess what the true effort is to replace.

If it is the clear plastic sweep that sticks to the bottom of the shower door, well that would be a $10 part and it takes about 60 seconds to replace (I've done this on my 2017). Typical maintenance item that one deals with every 2-3 seasons.

What seal exactly is giving you an issue?

Get rid of the solid door. Matter of time before it breaks the top mounting point and falls off . Suggest you replace solid door with "Nautilus" shower door by Stoett Industries. This door is used in the 23D shower and it is excellent. We have one in our 2017 Int. Serenity 23D and has been perfect. No leaks at the bottom. Cleans easily. Retracts into holder and is completely out of the way. Kind of like a pocket door. Check it out. May solve your current problem and also save you from broken door situation in the future.


It would be pretty easy to remove current door and install this door.

The rubber gasket just got in the way. We took it off and could not see any water coming through. It is just a nuisance.

If the seal discussed is the plastic sweep across the bottom of the door, ours got tore up when the door frame collapsed down vertically. Dealer replaced the door assembly under warranty but forgot to replace the bottom sweep. Guess what? the door works fine without it. No drips on the floor. Caz.

If it’s the rubber one across the bottom, Airstream sent me a replacement free long after the warrantee expired on my Flying Cloud. I’d searched all the local stores and couldn’t match it. There was no parts number so I sent AS a photo and the great lady in parts matched it.

Our shower door sweep lasted a matter of minutes. I picked up two spares, but have found that without the sweep gasket the metal lip below the door keeps the water within the shower. The installation takes several seconds, as it simply slides into a channel at the bottom of the door. I put a very small bit of clear silicone grease on the top of the sweep, and it quickly slid into the channel. The replacement lasted less than a week.
To quote 4 hours labour, the dealership must have misunderstood your issue, and quoted the labour to install a new complete door. Or they are being completely dishonest.

I read your response on the nautilus shower door and it looked interesting. I measured my door frame width and it was 25.5 inches. On their site the most narrow door they show is 36 inches. Is the shower door on your Serenity 23d actually that wide or did you have one special made?

We've had 3 shower doors all poor design and subject to many problems, too heavy and flawed design. Expandible shower rod and interesting curtains (we carry several for a change of scenery) solve the problem. Nautilus seems to work in other trailers as do the accordion type made of plastic which are much lighter and less subject to failure.

Our 2002 19' Bambi came with a door like the Nautilus one. That door has worked perfectly since we bought the trailer new. It has been necessary to caulk the bottom strip a couple of times. I believe our door is from Newline-Shub (http://www.newlinebathroom.com/shub---rv-c-1.html) and it seems to be very similar in function to the Nautilus doors.

We got tired of the shower door seal tearing and coming loosed. Removed the torn seal 2 seasons ago and still not leaking.

The rough opening for door in our 23D is 28". This is a factory installed door. All 23D (now called 23CB) have this door as well as the 19' Airstreams. If you remove your door including all metal framing the opening may be slightly larger. A 36" door would work fine. It just would not fully extend in your opening. In the kit it comes with you would have to trim the top and bottom rails to fit your opening. Easy to do. If you have an Airstream dealer within a reasonable distance go take a look at a 23CB.

Yep, did just that and trimmed the top and bottom rails. Makes the whole trailer feel bigger and no"'door wars" between toilet and shower.
