Should there be a gasket on side storage compartment door?

I have had my 2005 25' Safari for a while now, but just noticed there is a notch that runs along the entire perimeter of the storage compartment doors. It looks like it is designed to insert a rubber strip/gasket or piece of trim into the notch, but neither door has one, so I assume it is not designed to hold a gasket/trim, but to simply compress when you lock the door with the latch so it seals against the gasket in place on the door opening on the trailer.

I could not find an image of a compartment door at the AS parts supply stores to check, but would like to verify if a gasket is needed on the door if someone could set me straight.

Thanks

Yes, they should have gaskets.

Hi. There are gaskets on the compartment frame, but no gaskets in the notch or seam that runs around the perimeter of the door itself, as you describe. Joe

I used a double seal strip with adhesive backing and ran it around between the door and the frame. It makes a great seal.

I think its called gap blocker weather-stripping seal.

Thanks all, will leave it as it is, looks like it is designed that way. The gap between the two sides of the door panel must be designed to allow some compression when locked against the gaskets on the frame.

My inside gaskets pull off the interior aluminum. Do I really need them?
