screen vent by license plate??

can anyone tell me what the screen vent and tube is for and where is the tube supposed to go? The floor of my battery compartment was rotted and gone and now I need to know if the tube goes through the floor or just into the compartment to vent the battery? Thanks in advance!! Dale

Into the compartment to vent the battery is my understanding. My Trade Wind's tube was long gone by the time I got it.

It is supposed to go into the compartment to vent the battery. In a perfect world, the tube would go into an enclosure containing the battery, so the fumes can be vented outside.
