Rogue Bolt

I found this small carriage bolt laying on the floor just inside the entrance door to our 2018 FC19. I can't for the life of me figure out where it came from. The trailer has been sitting in our driveway for the past week or so and I've been in and out of it once or twice a day. The bolt wasn't there until yesterday evening. The trailer not having been moved leads me to believe that this must have fallen out of the door or lock mechanism but I sure can't figure out where it came from.

Any thoughts/ideas greatly appreciate.....

Its a grade 5 bolt for the hold down bracket for the dual parity flux capacitor that filters voltage to the sub woofer.

Ahhnh. That's why it looked familiar. And here I was all worried that we might get up some morning and not be able to open the door. Guess I just turned the stereo up to high yesterday.

Is the head of that bolt very flat, or shaped like a standard CB with a domed head? Hard to tell from your photo. If flat, I think technically it would be called an elevator bolt, and would be used someplace where the mfg. does not want a domed head to stick up more than minimally. Have you looked at the bottom edge of the main door? [not that it would have fallen inside, but worth a look IMO]

Airstream uses them apparently to attach the wood sub-floor to the frame:

The bolt has a domed head typical of a carriage bolt. Here is a better picture.

I still have not found anyplace near the door that it could have come from. I did, however, discover that all of the rivets hold the upper hinge to my screen door are pulling out.

It could be a bolt used to assemble the dinette seat in that corner.

It’s probably just stuff that was left behind during the manufacturing process. Lots of debris was left in my new Airstream.

Another factory shortcut, then.

Everyone knows that code calls for flux capacitors to be secured with grade 8 bolts.




Seriously though, I agree that it's leftover from manufacturing. If you drop a small bolt and can't find it, are you going to spend time looking for it or just grab another one?

It could have fallen from an airplane. Check the roof/ceiling carefully for a bolt shaped hole

I once heard that the Rolling Stones walked off the stage if they found a nut on the floor. They believed that it was off some gear over their heads and they'd be killed when a light or speaker fell.

My guess would be it's a carriage bolt used to attach the plywood to the frame and it's been lurking in a cabinet waiting for the right moment to roll out.
