A year ago the original Dometic refer quit working in my 1998 Excella 1000, so at the recommendation of my repair tech (who has generally been reliable) suggested replacing it with a Norcold unit of same size. Wellll, less than a year later it's not working well. Have been running on propane, waiting for replacement 110v circuit board. Now won't cool on propane. Did the "dollar" test on door seals and there is absolutely no RESISTANCE = poor door seal on freezer and refer doors. Now waiting for door replacements! (Been 2 weeks and still no circuit board, either!) Considering going with a
12v compressor refer (Furrion). Specs list it at 11 amps. I will mostly be on shore power, however, I do find myself doing some boondocking... anywhere from 24 hours to a week. I have 2-125ah lithium batteries, 2000 watt/30amp inverter/converter and a Champion 3500 dual fuel generator. Will probably add a Zamp 200watt solar suitcase soon. Anyone else switch over from propane/ammonia based refer to a
12v compressor style? Pros/cons.
