Replacing CO detector

Well my five years are up. The CO detector is beeping three times every minute to tell me it's time to replace it. It is a First Alert CO350MRVA (battery operated) that came with my AS.

First Alert claims that only their CO250MRVA or CO400MRVA models are currently approved for RVs. But I can't find them for sale anywhere (all I find are 12v models). I can find a CO400 that's battery operated, but not approved for RVs.

So my questions are:

Where can I get one?

Is the "RV rating" real?

Will the non-rv CO400 will just rattle apart sooner (but for $17 who cares)?

Last October our First Alert that came with our Safari also gave us the signal that it needed replacement. I also found it difficult to find and than found what looked like the identical model except made by Honeywell:

Honeywell Carbon Monoxide Alarm Detector Model #SF350RUL - Batteries Included

I ordered it and it fitted perfectly in the original mounting bracket.

SilverGate....That is a great deal at $19.50. I purchased the same detector from Amazon in Nov 2011 under the brand name of Safe T Alert for $49.82.

Yes, it was a good deal and works fine in the original mounting bracket.

BTW, interesting "handle" you have "2dabeach"... that's what they say here in San Diego (going to the beach)... but in New Jersey where I grew up we said "going down the shore"!

You're welcome Wayne&Sam...

Now, if I can just get someone who has 14" aluminum wheels with 5 lug holes and who has installed Centramatic wheel balancers tell me the model/part number that works for them!

Has anyone had one not beep after the five years? My trailer was made in '04 and batteries have been replaced from time to time, but no beeping indicating end of life.

I suppose I should replace it anyway.

I can't remember if I've ever replaced the batteries in ours and it hasn't beeped, unless it did it during the winter and finally gave up. I'd better check it.

I believe the life of these CO detectors is programmed to be 5 years and an internal timer will trigger the beeping at the 5-year mark.

My COSTAR failed this week after one year of use, although it was manufactured in 2010. Amazon had a lot of bad reports on COSTAR life, many failing early, and bad support from COSTAR. So, I have ordered a Kidde, accompany with a good reputation.
