Replacing BRAND NEW HW Tank
My original post was moved by the moderators to the black hole of Airstream restoration. I am not restoring an antique Airstream. They meant well.
This is a 2019 Flying Cloud. It is now August 2018, so, kinda new.
I am replacing my HW tank because the NEW one has a hole in it.
Now.
There are some good YouTube videos on doing this procedure on a regular RV - has anyone done it on a LATE MODEL Airstream, and if so, any tips or hints would be appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

Okay, here's the response you are going to get from anybody that reads your post:
Your 2019 Airstream is still under warranty. Have your Airstream dealer install it for you, under warranty. Unless, of course, you did something monumentally dumb, like drilling a hole in it.
Now, if you did perform a self-inflicted hole installation, the way you remove and replace the water heater is:
Turn off the LP and power, and disconnect the power lines from the back, and alp line from the front.
Disconnect the hot water outlet from the top, and the cold water inlet from the bottom.
Remove the cover from the outside of the water heater, then remove all the philips head screws holding the water heater to the outer body of the trailer.
Disconnect the wires going to the circuit board outside on the water heater, then slide the water heater out of the hole, being careful not to pinch or cut the lines or wires.
Using butyl tape, run it around the inside edge of the water heater where the screws will go, and bend that area to make a mounting flange for installation.
Slide the new water heater in place, and re-attach everything you removed from the old one.

Yup, agreed! You should bring it back to Colonial and don’t let them make you wait. You just bought it.
I remember reading your post and posing with the “video rock star”, as you put it.
I bought mine just this past April and I’m on my 3rd Atwood circuit board. Anthony in Service just slots me in at 9am now without any grief.

Hole? Drill a hole? Who would do such a thing to their brand new Airstream?
PS - those Dinosaur circuit board mounting plates? They are offset. You can turn them upside down, and no drilling required.
Too late smart. Too old to be embarrassed. Not so proud to pass it along.

"black hole of Airstream restoration?"
Are you referring to the following thread?
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f445...ou-186302.html
Both threads are in the "Airstream Restoration, Repair, AND Parts" forum [emphasis added]:
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f3/
. . . within which there are sub-divisions [ . . further "down" the organizational structure here -- see the blue labels above left separated by the ">" symbols . . . ]. Your earlier thread actually ended up in the correct Water Heaters etc. sub-forum which makes perfect sense IMO:
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f445/
Not exactly a "black hole" IMO.
Very little attention is paid here -- IMO -- to the forum in which a post is located, as most folks simply look on the right, or above, and click on New Posts or Portal to see what threads are active.
Happy trails,
Peter
YMMV
PS -- Edit -- looks like both threads are now in the correct sub-forum.

Butyl tape, teflon tape for threads, is there anything else I need to have on hand that will not come with the new tank?

. Ultimate Airstream actually has a company that will produce a larger tank that they can install in any Airstream . It is one of the few things they don’t do their selves but they take measurements and can greatly increase urine needed water

You've already received some good advice on replacing the water heater, but I'm still trying to understand why you are even considering doing it yourself on a 2019?

Okay, so if you did drill a hole in the tank and you don't want to have it welded, why not get an aluminium rivet to fill the hole and jb weld over it so it wouldn't leak? Or run a stainless screw in and jb weld it. You can get both at HD or Lowes.

Question..Do you void the warranty if one tries to fix it themselves and makes the problem worse?

Yes, pretty sure this is not going to be covered. Already paid for a new one.
