Remove smell Help

MY 25' FC smells like the tablets i put into the black tank. I have drained the tanks (as well as all of the water in the airstream); and prior to that I had put in baking soda in the black tank (with clean water) and left it there for several weeks. I can smell the tank from the toilet and the smell is not stronger there - it just seems to be everywhere inside the trailer. Not bad enough not to stay in it, but strong enough. Have tried some air freshener over the last few week, but it always comes back. Any ideas welcome on how to get rid of the smell. Thanks in advance

When your toilet is not being flushed you should have no odors at all coming into the trailer from the black tank. None. The only other way for odors to enter would be if your bathroom vanity sink drain is plumbed to the black tank, as some are. In this case if the water in the vanity sink drain has dried up you can get odors.

So, my hunch is that you have some remnants of the tablets inside the trailer somewhere. If they got moist they will have a stronger odor. Check wherever you were storing them to see if the bag/container leaked.

I'm an advocate of completely draining both black and gray water tanks during storage. Any water left in them will stagnate and grow bacteria. There will always be some odor in the tanks themselves but any residual water becomes a breeding ground for things that cause foul odors. That said, be sure to put antifreeze in all traps so gasses in the tanks can't find a route into the trailer. Also close off sink and shower drains to help keep them sealed. If you have inside storage, slightly open a window or two to allow ventilation. A sealed trailer will trap odors and over time odors will permeate pillows, mattresses and foam cushions. It becomes really difficult to elimiate odors at that point

I've always thought they worked best on organic odors. Do you find them effective for chemical odors?

I would use this first then you will know for sure that your tanks are clean and the smell isn't coming from them.

Remove smell help

Our previous camper had a smell around the toilet. It didn’t go away until we ran the black tank flush system after dumping the black tank.

Check that the sewer vent vacuum breakers are there and aren't leaking or stuck open. I just looked at the date on the OP. I hope you found it by now.
