Rain in Cargo

Hey all. My wife and I just picked up our first ever trailer this weekend, 2015 16’ Sport. Spent Saturday night in it at Elkmont Campground and really enjoyed it.

When we got home and were unloading the rear cargo area so rain got on the door while open which was then closed. Will this amount of water in that space hurt/damage anything in there? Ideally should have wiped the water off before closing but that didn’t get done and now a little nervous may damage something while staying closed up. Something to worry about or am I just being anal with my first camper?

Thanks

Rain in Cargo

A little water that quickly evaporates is not an issue, really. It’s the slow steady soaking that screws stuff up...open it up and dry it out when you can.

Probably not. That's not enough to even make a puddle.

To toss out a couple of potential modifications to your rear storage compartment that make water less of an issue…

Some people I know have improved drainage of their rear storage compartment by drilling additional strategically placed drain holes. But that can backfire, too, because anyplace that lets water drain out will also let water in that is thrown up by the tires from a wet road surface. So if you add drainage, don't go overboard.

At least one person I know put down a layer of Dri-Dek (https://www.dri-dek.com/) in their rear compartment so that anything left in the compartment doesn't lie directly in puddled water. You do lose some usable height in the compartment due to the thickness of the Dri-Dek, so it might cause problems if you store slinkies back there.

Thumbs up Just what we did....

......all our Classic storage compartments, (except the rear bumper drawer), had carpet, not the best Idea. They ALL got soaked.

Repaired all leaks, removed carpet, dried & installed drainage tiles.
Using my BFH I created a low point in the bumper drawer and drilled drain holes.
