Progress Update on 1970 Ambassador (AK DreamStream)

Hi all,

Thought I'd share an update on our full monty reno of our 1970 Ambassador, that we've been lovingly calling the DreamStream.

This is only our second post since becoming members here, and since last summer we have been lurking around on AirForums a ton. We can't thank everyone enough for the advice that's been readily available to us here.

We have completely stripped the interior down to the outer shell. And on Saturday, with a bunch of help from friends and family, we lifted the shell off with our gantries that we built with specs found here. BTW, does anyone have ideas on how we can reuse that wood after we're done? It was a bit of an investment, with 2x4 prices being where they are

We're so excited to nearly be at a phase where demo is done, and we can start building our home up to what we want it to be. Speaking of expensive investments, we have ordered several sheets of marine grade plywood to replace the subfloor. We also have axles on the way from Colin Hyde, who we got in touch with thanks to AirForums and our friend Bob Nigh. Lastly, we have a Dometic Blizzard on the way and two Maxxair fans, and a pile of aluminum waiting to be turned into inside skins.

We'd love any advice, suggestions, or warnings at this point for what's to come. I've looked at several similar full monty threads, and this is the stage I was saying months ago that I couldn't wait to get to. Again, we just want to thank this awesome community!

Attached are some photos, with Aileen in one for perspective.

Power wash every seam, joint and windows with someone inside to watch for leaks. Seal them now before installing insulation and wire(run as much accessible as possible) and interior skin. Same for under belly and wheel wells (terrible AS design) and especially the dum-dum flap in the rear. Don’t be afraid to drill out old leaking rivets and learn how to buck rivet with anvil and air hammer. Ours took 2 1/2 years
