Poor service again

Resolution, learn how to do more myself. Brought the AS in for some basic repairs and maintence. $750. Toilet seal is still leaking. I have very little trust in this outfit after doing business with them once. Thank God they ordered the wrong AC other wise I would be dealing with a bad AC install too. I'm getting tired of going from one place to another and paying for work that I have to pay again to get fixed correctly. I learned that just because someone has certifications does not mean they can do the job right.

The one time I did take ours in, the job done was deplorable, an AC install. Learn to do-it-yourself, I must advise. The custom shops sprinkled around the country are good, but expensive.

The service industry has not pride in workmanship and they are worried about the bottom line. You are going to take the time to do it right and they won't.

'Most' of the time you would be wise to have authorized Airstream service centers to service your Airstream. Yes, there are some questionable AS centers BUT sob centers do not always know 'how' to work on Airstreams. Airstreams ARE different.

I have pretty much had the same kind of "professional" repair experiences with Lucy.

On two separate occasions, two different Airstream Dealers have serviced Lucy's wheel hubs. Neither had anyone who knew how to readjust the trailer brakes after the hub service. I had to readjust Lucy's brakes on their lot.

One of these Airstream Dealers was unable to figure out how to move Lucy with her Hensley hitch system. Their answer was to remove the Hensley so that they could move the trailer. When I arrived to pick up Lucy, her Hensley was in pieces in a box. It took me about two hours in the hot sun to reinstall the Hensley at the dealership. This Airstream dealer has since gone out of business. Gee whiz, I wonder why that happened.

The only good dealer experience that we have had was with Sutton out in Eugene, Oregon. Their guys actually knew what they were doing and got it right.

Our only other good professional repair experiences have been a Jackson Center. Lucy has been there three times over the years. Each time, the work was done properly by people who actually know what they are doing.

We can usually do most maintenance and repair ourselves. It sure is a shame that that the so called professionals are so incompetent.

The key is to find an independent service tech who is qualified, certified, capable and caring who will treat your trailer like it was his own. Traits that you won't see at most dealers.

Hard to find........but they DO exist!

I have a pick up topper that needed new door cylinders. I ordered the cylinders. A week later the parts lady called and said the cylinders were in. I made an appointment to have them installed when I picked them up. I showed up on time and stood around waiting for two hours. Finally one of the shop guys came over to me and asked me why I was there. I told him I was there to have new cylinders installed. He said you'll need to make an appointment to have that done.

I left, didn't pick up the cylinders, and never went back. Never will. :-)

Not all of us! I would be glad to give you the numbers of any of my clients who will tell you other wise.
Unfortunately, most fall into your statement. It is very sad that so few care about their work and only care about making a pile of cash.

We have also experienced poor service from various authorized Airstream dealerships and service shops. So the endorsement and authorization by the manufacturer doesn't necessarily translate into good service.

But keep looking and ask others with Airstreams for references. Fortunately for those of us in central Texas we have a great place to take our Airstreams - TOP here on the forums. It's a great feeling when you find someone that cares about his workmanship and you can trust.

I will never take our Airstream to the local dealer/service shop again.

I didn't know about Spokane. I would love to hear from other customers that have had good service in Spokane. It would be a cruise over the mountain pass for me. It would be prudent to know a little more about the service department before making a commitment of travel and hotel rooms.
Thanks

Here is a non-Airstream recent experience. I just bought a front end loader for my Kubota tractor. It cost over $4k. Which to me is like 2 cars. I get it home and take it off the tractor like it is designed to be and one of the quick disconnects (QD) is leaking on the side of the loader (makes a mess on my shop floor) I go down to the tractor place on my time and pickup a new QD. So I put the loader back on the tractor and the next time I take it off the other side of the same QD is leaking so I go and get the other side of it again on my time. I replace that QD because it leaking bad since it is on the tractor side. I then find out that none of the fittings on the valve body are tight and several of them are leaking as well. They also did not adjust the mower deck properly when they installed the loader frame and I had to spend about an hour fixing that. So what did I pay them for?

How many Ram truck owners take their vehicles back to Hermosillo(sp?) Mexico for service?

My local RV dealer will only work on the generic items in my AS. Does a good job. However, he won't work on any problems regarding the AS itself. I had an occassion to call a mobile RV service to tweek my 1985 30' Avion I just bought and the guy got the plumbing working, checked the systems and the bill was $277. He also said he wouldn't work on an AS.

Unless and until AS gets their dealership service certified and geographicically better, I will look elsewhere for my next TT.

The boys at Out Of Doors Mart have taken good care of us over the past two years.

The best service that I found within reasonable distance from our home is Toscanos in Los Banos, Ca. They provide free overnight stay with full hook-ups on their lot. We needed to be there for a 2 day repair which was completed halfway into the 2nd day. They offered to us an additional, free, night so that we could leave with a fresh start in the morning. I know Jackson offers this so there must be other service centers that have this convenience.

Seriously: you'd expect that when you take your Airstream into an Airstream Specialist, you should be safe. We've had major, major issues with this already (Airstream Adventures NW of Portland), and we have only had our Airstream for less than 2 months. I feel for you!
