plumbing help needed!

1st time Airstream owner here, and really winging it as I go. I have a 1975 23 landyacht. The plumbing at the rear of the airstream had frozen and I have a multitude of leaks in the copper. The eventual plan is to re-plumb the entire trailer. The current plan is to isolate the front sink and be able to use just that sink with water from the holding tank.I have cut and capped the lines that head to the rear of the trailer. I have tested the water pump and seem to be getting suction. The lines do not appear to have any leaks, although the strainer cap was cracked, and has been repaired. I get a small amount of water gurgling when the pump on, spitting out of the faucet, but no constant flow. I don't know what else to check? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Most likely your repair of the strainer is leaking air. It is under suction, and it takes very little air to disrupt the flow of water and get the situation you are experiencing. Of course, if everything else was damaged, the pump may have also taken a hit.

A common problem that can cause this symptom is the pump sucking air on the intake side. Check the connections on the intake hose for the pump between the pump and the tank as well as the line itself. Since the trailer has experience frozen pipes, check the pump carefully as well, it could have a crack that allows air in.

Is the water heater bypassed or isolated so as not to fill it?

All of my lines seem to be in tact. I removed the water pump, took it apart and cleaned it out. All of the diaphragms appear to be in fine condition. I hooked everything back up and gained some pressure, where the cold water will run for about a minute before sputtering again. Nothing on the hot water side. I have not bypassed the hot water heater. Is there a separate way to fill that or is my only input from the fill spot with the garden hose that fills the holding tank?

Can you hkp to a hydrant? Blow out everything, then try your pump.
