Pedestal Table Bed Cushion Thickness

Hello friends,

I'm hoping someone can help me determine whether I have the wrong thickness cushions for converting our pedestal table to a bed. We are second owners of a very lightly used 2015 Classic 30'. First owner made no conversions/replacements of any kind to the standard equipment; and never converted the pedestal table to a bed. When I converted the table to a bed using the cushions, stored within the recliner arms, the cushion tops are approx 3" above the adjacent bench seats. The result is an uncomfortable bulge in the middle of the bed. My cushions placed atop the table measure 26"x22"x5.5". Airstream customer service is researching but initial comment by AS rep was he'd not heard of that cushion thickness and has since sent my question to AS engineering. Anyone have a similar experience with cushions that seem too thick for the bed?

Thanks!

Myron

I will chime in since no one else has. I have an Eddie Bauer so the best i can do is guess. First you mentioned a pedestal... if it is hydraulic and variably adjustable, can you lower it another inch or so? The center of your body weighs more. Perhaps the cushions are designed to absorb that weight.

OTOH you may have answered it yourself. 2015 prior owners never USED the bed function... but have used the seat cushions for years. The seat cushions have worn down. Might be a bit early to get new foam... but it is a good upgrade!

Or as a temporary solution get a small mattress topper and chop it up, adding padding under the lower areas when you use the bed.

Hi Paula,

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. Our Classic has a center-pedestal table that locks in place manually when extended. Airstream customer support got back to me that the cushions are not the right thickness, which makes sense. The quandary is that the original owner (we're 2nd owners) said the cushions came with the trailer and he never got them out of storage to use for a bed or any other purpose. The cushions clearly match the upholstery but don't fit anything. Only thing I can figure is that they were a prototype cushion or something akin, mistakenly placed in the trailer. Anyway, I've asked Airstream what it will cost me to order cushions of the right size.

Thanks again for your thoughts.
