Need help with '69 overlander AC unit shroud

AC unit question for 69 Overlander
I posted this also in the Overlander forum, but I thought I'd ask the general group.

Here is the photo of the AC unit on top of my '69 Overlander. I believe it is the original unit. The manufacturer's plate says (Which I took off to be able to recover the data):
Summer Air Conditioner for Outdoor Use
Model: TAC-110-1 Series DA-9
Part: 258150 Serial 48764

Made by Armstrong Furnace Company, Columbus, Ohio.

Question is: Does the replacement shroud need to have an opening on the over the shroud for the fan, or can it be solid?

The reason is I'm still getting leaks and sealed up everything I can think of on the roof. I wonder if it ls leaking through the AC fan opening going down into the unit.

Anyone out there have some insights?
