Mystery part! Any ideas?

So, while i was cleaning and chasing wires yesterday, I came across this part. Is this important? Here are a couple of pics.
That is a very small spring in the closeup pic.
I thank you all in advance!

That is the flint spark generator (uses flints for cigarette lighters) for lighting the propane refrigerator and water heater. Hope this helps! Ed

Ed,
Thanks so much! So, how does this thing work? Is it missing parts? it would appear to me that it is. Is this worth the trouble to keep? Should it find itself in the recycle bin? What do you recommend/think? Al

Relic Lighter

These things are not often used today. You can get a much safer long nosed lighter that uses butane and is a throw away item when empty that would be easier to use and carry than that old school flint spark maker. Some times they would work sometimes not! It may be missing some parts too which are not easily found these days. For example I have two of them and neither one is complete. If you want to just get rid of it let me know... perhaps yours has the stuff to make one of mine work again. I want to get one working just as a display item in my trailer. Let me know and I'll shoot you a price and I will pay for shipping too! Thanks, Ed

Ed,
If you are interested, by all means I will get it to you. Just the two rods and a very small diameter spring. You can see by the pictures. Let me know.
Have a great rest of the weekend!
Al
