The factory told me it is about a 2 day job to remove and replace the caulking up there and it would not be a fun job to do yourself.

It will cost you $1000-2000 and it is sad that the sealant they use does not last longer. It will last longer if you go ahead with your plans for a shelter.

Oh wow yeah

I've been up there recently and the sealant looks dirty and aged but intact - I may get up there and feel it too - if they recommend it I will do it though - 1K sounds palatable but 2k - id pay if it is needed but that would sting!

We have been to the Service Center at the Factory four or five times over the years. We have always been most satisfied with the work that they have performed. They are no more pricey than any RV dealer. The main difference is, that at Jackson Center, the technicians actually know what they are doing.

Here is one additional tip for visiting the Mother Ship. There is a restaurant near Jackson Center that is not to be missed. It is the Inn Between on 25-A over in Botkins, Ohio. They have some of the best fried chicken that we have ever had. We have heard that they have other good stuff, but we are staunch fried chicken aficionados, and we have never tried anything else. We usually eat there every night that we are in Jackson Center. It is located about 7 miles west of Jackson Center along SR 274 at its intersection with CR 25-A. It is only about 100 yards west of I-75.

It is literally in the middle of nowhere, but it is best to get there before 6:30 or you will have to wait for a table.

Sadly - this time I am not going personally - it is being driven by a service for me to get the appraisal of damages done and figuring how I will proceed

Another benefit to getting work done at Jackson Center:
Parts are on hand- don't have to be ordered.

The one thing I may discuss with them is what ideas they have for my drawers...I have to use an annoying bungee cord system to ensure they stay in place in travel...I do like how they feel and operate when parked and in use...I tried a heavier type of latch system and quickly learned I would rather deal with securing the things with bungees in order to have more enjoyable operation/use when not in tow...so some sort of addition of a removable latch mechanism...

They even list JC as a vendor. We won our BU cam at the last Escapade and took it to JC for installation.

While it may seem convenient to have them install sensors while the trailer is there, I would prefer to trust a good tire shop to remove the tires from the wheels, install the sensors, the tires, and balance the wheels. But, then, I have had plenty of tire changes and have worked hard to find a tire shop I trust.

I believe the service center mounts tires for the trailers on the assembly line.
I know the service center has a tire balancing machine and I'm pretty sure the service center has a tire mounting machine.

They did install the Dill TMPS sensors for me when I upgraded to 16" rims & Michelin LTX tires. Since the new wheels came assembled (tires came mounted & wheels balanced), I did pay the labor charge to have them dismount the tires, install the TPMS sensors and remount the tires. As for balancing after the install, I have Centramatics.

Even with Centramatics I balanced the wheels and tires.

I really like these latches because when you are camped you push a button on each latch and the drawer operates completely normally. When you get ready to move, you push the button the other way and you need the magnetic key to open them. I strongly recommend getting extra keys and putting them where you can find them if you lose your primary one. We keep our primary key on the inside of the stove vent.

I never got back to that thread and posted results but in over 4,000 miles I have never had a secure drawer pop open.

Al
Al, when you installed these latches did you use the "catches" they supplied or did you leave them out. With my drawers it may be OK just to mount the latch without the catch.

(Wow, poetry!!)

@ the mothership as we speak

My trailer safely arrived today at the mothership delivered....I sent an email with a series of things I wanted quotes for as possibilities...not sure how the insurance stuff will work out....honestly I cannot still decide what I want to do...

I did make a small but effective solution to my drawer issue...ill post a photo in a bit...

Related, I spoke to my bank, and verified that they would (if I so choose) apply the insurance money toward the principle loan balance and/or also relinquish funds to pay for any "improvements or repairs unrelated to the hail damage"....so IF I know I will keep this trailer, I can have JC do things and the funds can come out of the insurance funds...

So...I am considering all this...really I don't want to side track this thread into my hail damage issue, but just saying, any great ideas for repairs/improvements to my unit while it is there are appreciated...thanks.
