Low AC Voltage and Dometic Frdge Performance

I have a 2 year old Dometic and have been pleased with it.

This weekend we were camped at a music festival where they used big towable generators and spider boxes. As more people plugged in, the line voltage dropped from 120v to a steady 109v.

And my fridge was pretty much at 45 degrees instead of its usual 39.

Coincidence, or was it a consequence of sub nominal voltage?

IMHO, consequence. On AC power, the fridge uses a resistance heater powered by line voltage to boil the coolant that makes the fridge work.

Low line voltage implies low heat output for the heater coil. Switch to propane if you have that option...

Some Dometics automagically switch to AC line voltage in an attempt to save propane. They don't seem to cool that well when they do that. On mine, you can force it to stay on propane by switching out of "Auto" to "Gas", IIRC.
