Smile Long storage

All, I was gifted a 1997 Legend Airstream. This Norman Rockwell beauty never spent any time on the road but was lived in in Sausalito for 9 years before storage. She's been sitting in storage for 7 years in Napa, CA. I have no idea what does and does not work and need to move her to my place which is about a hundred miles away. Not being an RV person yet, I need recommendations on assessing her for towing, do I need fresh barrettes for towing or will my Ram 3500 supply power to the brakes etc. Any suggestions on dealing this project are appreciated. I have moderate to good general mechanical skills.

Do the trailer lights work? Are they electric brakes? Are the tires in good shape?

Go to this site:
https://www.airstream.com/owners/manuals/year/1997/
and download the 1997 Airstream Owners Manual.
That would be a good start.

To legally tow, you must have functional brakes and a battery to power those brakes (or a similar emergency capability) in the event of a TV/TT disconnect.

Brakes and axle bearings need service. Tires likely need to be immediately replaced as they may be original equipment. Check date code before you move it.

The frame needs to be inspected for integrity - rust. Same for the axles, suspension and hitch.

Wiring may be damaged by rodent infestation.

Leaks may have weakened the wooden floor and the shell/trailer uses the floor as structure.

A quick inspection may find it in better than average condition. Sausalito is close to salt water, so some risk, but CA has a dry climate .... not that you would make that assertion when looking at current conditions.

A 100 mile trip is not that far, but it's far enough. Take care. Travel in non-commute hours. Travel slow. Use secondary roads - lots of stop signs better than faster paced traffic. Check your load on a regular basis. Have a flat bed option planned if all goes sideways. Good idea to have a chase car too.

Good Luck with your new adventure. Pat
