Leaky shower

Has anyone had an issue with the shower leaking. My leak is coming from behind the aluminum lower door sill below the door. I just picked it up from the dealer today and they didn’t fix the problem. Where the sill sits on the plywood edge. There is a 1/8-1/4 aluminum lip that extends down from the front edge of the sill below the door. The water is coming from behind that aluminum lip.

If you don't want to go back to the dealer, and you are good at applying silicone bathroom caulk, White on the lower gap between the aluminum door sill and the shower pan. Clear on the corners where the side door frames meet the sill. It is also possible one side of the gap between the door frame and shower wall is leaking and then running down to the plywood and leaking out. A good way to find the location so you are not guessing is to use painters tape to tape off all suspected leak areas and then test it. No leak? remove some of the tape and test again.

I won’t go back to the dealer!!! I just picked it up, and I’m 2 for 2 with a poor experience. I would give them the benefit of the doubt playing the Covid card, though take a look at the second video...I can’t live with that!!!

Video of fix...not sure if it is fixed. The shower is winterized already...my guess is it’s not fixed! Not to mention...HOW IN THE WORLD ARE WE EXPECTED TO LIVE WITH THIS!!!

That's really a bad job on both of those. Any chance you could take it to Jackson Center or another AS dealership for warranty work? Leaks are sometimes hard to fix but that door looks like the aluminum trim is catching somewhere. Try calling Jackson Center and let them know about the bad service.

If it’s not to much to ask. Can someone out there upload a good photo of the lower door sill. Include both the right and left edge. I would like to compare it to mine... as long as yours doesn’t leak. ��

If you call Jackson Center they will send you a shim kit that includes a block of plexiglass and a stainless steel screw for under the hinge side of the shower door. Tell them you need a new sweep as well because if it's not torn now it will be soon. The doors tend to sag and get out of square then drag on the bottom handle side. This might not help your leak but might take care of your door dragging on the sill. I also put a shim under the handle side to give support while towing. Hope this helps.

So it looks like the original sill was put on backwards with the lip inwards so water dripping of the door simply ran off the sill and down the wall. The dealer turned it around properly but failed to make sure the door and drip strip clears the sill lip. How unfortunate. You could prop up the door with a plastic bushing as many end up doing if the door settles a bit and has the issue in your second video. Or you can take the sill out and lower it just a bit. Or you can try the dealer again....

Edit: I see on mine the door has two lock screws to hold the door on the hinge pin that will adjust the door height as long as they hold and it doesn't slip back down as others have experienced.

Here are some photos of mine. It does not leak, and the door has about 3/16 inch clearance so the drip seal or better, sweep as jonmad called it does not bind and rip.

I’ve got the shim kit on my classic if you need pictures of it we do not have the weather strip on the bottom because our door still sags. I ended up fixing it today by changing out bent screws... I believe I need to replace the plastic bushings that the screws go into. Anyways, let me know if you need pics of that plastic piece that airstream sends to boost the door

We have the exact same leaking shower problem on our FC 28 RBQ. I tried taping a few places on the inside of the door frame. Maybe made it leak a little less, but still leaked significantly. Our leak is more on the left side of the door than on the right, but that may have been impacted by not being exactly level. We do level carefully, but of course it' probably never perfect. Regardless, I will also reach out to JC to piggyback on the solution. Luckily, I don't have the faulty repair with the shower door dragging on the lower frame.

Let me know what you find out. I won’t have a chance to dig into it until next week. I’ll let you know what I find. At this time of the year, its a little tough managing anything requiring a water test!

I had the same issue.... it's a factory defect, whereas, the shower was not shimmed properly. This caused delimitation of the shower wall (underneath the shower). JC removed the entire front shower wall and installed new shower door to fix this problem.

If you don't have this job done correctly at JC,,,, you'll regret it down the road!

Well, on the road and shower still leaking. I’m in Phoenix for 4 more days and planning on disassembling the shower myself. Has anyone done this yet? From what I can see. I have aluminum channel (door frame/door seal) screwed to a aluminum frame which I’m guessing is attached to the wall at the face edge...I should be able to access the heads of the screws once I remove the frame. From what I can tell, my issue is the lower sill angles outward. Water runs down the door hits the sill and has nowhere to go other than out the ends. My thought is to remove the lower sill and re-mount with it angled back into the shower. Then re-assemble. If anyone has done this before... is there something I need to know? Other than fighting and removing calk, Is the lower sill somehow welded to the shower base...etc? I’m trying to plan ahead before diving head first. Already planning on 3 or 4 back to HD!

Take a look at my pictures again. My lower sill has a dam on the outer face that stops the water and there is silicon seal to prevent it from running out either side. Is your sill so slanted that the dam lip is lower than the inner sill? Mine tilts ever so slightly inward.

I cant tell by your photos how the inner joint is calked. As you can see from my photos, I have a gap where the frame meets the lower sill. Also, my unit is currently sitting 1/4" low on the passenger side...toward the back of the shower. If I was to level it out, it would make the angle of the lower sill even more toward the outside edge. Im assuming the water is pooling up enough to work its way behind the calk and out the ends. I was thinking of remounting the lower sill with a more aggressive angle toward the inside of the shower.

Your setup is the same as mine. the Sealant is done the same. since the water is not spilling over the sill then the corner sealant job is the issue. I have sealant on all three exposed edges where the door jambs sit in the sill so water can't flow in front of or under the door jambs. I get a little pooling of water on the sill but most of it drains back into the shower.

Maybe if you poor some water onto the sill with the door open you can better see where the sealant is leaking.

Our shower was also leaking out at one or both ends of the point where the frame meets the sill. I removed the existing caulk, which looked a bit better than the awful caulking job in your picture, and redid it with this:

You need to seal that gap. Since I did that we've had no more leaks.
