Keys???

I just got a 70' Safari 23' and there were no keys for it. My question is does the same key open the door and all the storage areas on the AS and how can I figure out what key blank to use and the key cuts? I have access to a keying machine just need to blank and code, anyone have any info? Thanks

No they do not have a common key. The storage compartments are a simple lock. If you must go ahead a drill out the tumbler and simply replace the whole thing. You may be able to get a set keyed alike. The AS door is a different animal. I don't know if it's easy to remove the tumblers and get it keyed by a locksmith or better to bring the trailer to one and do it. It should be a basic job for the locksmith. Don't forget the water fill compartment. That one just might be a common key and available through Airstream. My battery compartments and storage compartments are keyed alike separately.

Here's a chart that lists most of the keys needed.

IIRC, they are available at or through your local AS dealer.

How much time and patience do you have? I did an entry door tumbler key with a file for a '64 avion. Remove the tumblers assembly, find the right key blank, by more than one blank for mistakes. Insert the blank, observe the tumblers on the OUTSIDE of the tumbler assembly, measure blank and file to match one tumbler at a time. Again and again until you get it right. About 2 hrs and a pot and a half of coffee. Resist the urge to remove and file the individual tumblers inside or outside the cylinder to match your key. That usually ends badly.
