Is Vacuum Breaker #4900 needed in shower?

We have a 2001 Flying Cloud 25ft. The shower head was not putting out much water and then the vacuum breaker #4900 started leaking at the shower inlet. Tightening the shower hose did not work. Do we have to have the vacuum breaker at all? We decided to change to the Oygenics shower head but are hesitant about putting in a new breaker that we were able to find at Home Depot. Thanks!!

If the shower head has a long enough hose to possibly lie in standing water most codes in the US require a vacuum breaker. I believe it's the water safety act and the possibility 'grey' water might be sucked into a fresh water supply system. I've been through this with our previous Safari.

The short answer is yes, Airstream has to install them if the hose is long enough. "Airstream" is required to install them, what you do is...

My older trailers surely do not have a vacuum breaker on the shower hose. Campgrounds are required to have vacuum breakers on the water hookups in many places to protect their lines.

Me, I would probably order a couple of vacuum breakers to replace it but would use the shower without it until they came. And maybe a lot longer if the shower works better without it.

I guess the camper shower really is different from a home shower because of the gray tank. That is what is going to back up into the shower base.
