I want this, but what is it?
Greetings.
Last weekend I made a conjugal vist to the Airstream in storage and went strolling among the dozens of boats, SOB trailers and MH's.
I came across a trailer that had something that I had to look at for a few seconds, and realized that this was genius:
The jack post, which normally sits on a jack plate, or the AS "cone" jack plate was sitting in a mechanism that had a 10 or 12 inch jack screw in it.
What I realized, this is used to align the tongue of the trailer over the ball of the hitch, so that backing up perfectly is a thing of the past. The screw will move the trailer's tongue either left or right until it is positioned perfectly over the ball.
I'm pretty good at lining up the ball and tongue the old fashioned way, but this would sure make it easy to line up in a situation where you can't go straight back.
This happened to us in Michigan. We were in a tight spot, and I had to line up the tow vehicle and the trailer tongue at an odd angle. Not real easy.
I also remember Hensley makes something called a "Tongue Twister".
Is this that thing?
It also looks like something I might be able to whip up in my shop, but I'd need to weld an "receiver" for the jack post to sit in.
I want one, I think.
Jonathan
