How to remove staining below hot water tank hatch

I have lines of staining from hard water (I'm guessing) running down from the hot water hatch cover.

How do remove this discoloration?
The stain lines are smooth to the touch. Not rough or gritty or raised.

I have tried Walbernize and Meguiars wax. Neither did anything to stain. I hesitate to use anything abrasive.

What do you recommend?

Welcome Aboard...👍

It looks to be the same we get during Winter storage, staining from the white roof coating, try wiping with WD40 and then wax or seal.

More important remove & treat the filiform

More info here.

If WD-40 or Corrosion-X does not remove it, try some white vinegar with a bit of salt, then rinse with water. If that doesn't do anything, polishing compound is safe to use sparingly and won't remove the clear coat especially if you don't rub too hard or for too long.

So THAT'S filiform?!?!

I had read about. Now I've experienced it!

OK ..... let the struggle to contain it begin.

Thanks

Try Lime Away. Hard water is only lime build up. This is not filaform corrosion. The red line points to filaform corrosion.
