How to remove/replace step light

We have a 2016 Bambi 22FB and love it! I have noticed the small exterior light just aft of the door is not working. How do I gain access to replace or upgrade the bulb?

You do know that it’s on a separate switch inside the trailer. Gotta check the easy solutions first.

It is. Funny, you'd think the switch next to the door would be for the outside light but they're swapped. I've noticed the outside light is getting dimmer and dimmer. It still comes on but not enough light to see by.

I don’t have experience with the light in question. Have you tried a simple pry tool to see if it just clips on? Shouldn’t be too difficult to figure out if it clips. I wouldn’t think it’s accessible from the inside.

How to remove/replace step light

No separate bulb to replace, need to replace the whole assembly.

Chrome bezel snaps on and is held in place by two small indents at either end.

Main assembly with LED screws into trailer skin.

Haven’t installed, so can’t say what the hole in the skin looks like. Assuming the use of a barrel crimp to connect to the trailer wiring. And sealant .

Purchased at Airstream HQ but can’t find receipt.

Greg

I replaced this on our first rig. What I remember is there was precious little wiring coming thru the skin to attach the replacement. Maybe you’ll have more!

Can someone give me the dimensions of that light? The lens on my 2002 Classic is yellowed and cracking (and NLA). I think I can mount that light vertically and it would cover the hole.

Thanks,

Al

Not certain how to access the bulbs.

I too had a similar problem with the light in the external door handle. Problem was determined to be the wire connections at the on/off switch. I believe that the wires at many of the switches become loose as the factory workers don't take the original installation care you would otherwise expect from the iconic Airstream brand. Don't get me wrong, I love my rig. That said, I had to fix many little and not so little issues to really make it mine.

Are you venting, asking a question, or answering original OP? Or maybe a combo of everything? Not certain.

You'd think the bathroom switch would be near the bathroom!

Interesting, I thought that our step light has gotten dimmer. Seems like the biggest challenge will be attaching the new unit to the existing wires. What is the size of the hole behind the light that the wires run through?
