Heat Pump Won't Shut Off
Hi,
We have a 2018, 26', Flying Cloud. For about a year now we've used the heat pump off and on. Last week we used it in temps that got down into the 40's at night. Before going to bed, I would manually switch over to the furnace because the furnace is quieter and heats a little better. All was good until the last night when the heat pump would not shut off. Both the heat pump and furnace were running despite anything I would do. I eventually shut off the 30 amp service and ran the furnace on battery. The next day, around 11 am when it was in the 60's, I switched the 30 amp service on and the heat pump started up again. The only way to shut it off was by turning it off on the thermostat. Bottom line is, the furnace works fine and the heat pump won't shut off.
I can have the dealer fix it but if it's something simple I'd rather do it myself.
I've been a member for a while but don't post much. Most questions are answered quite well and in a timely manner so I generally choose not to be background noise.
Thanks

Did check to see if you dud like I did, accidently change the fan from Auto to On. It will sound like the HP or furnace is running but they are not.
Press the fan button until it says Auto.
Thanks

Hmmmm ... I believe I did check that but now I'm not sure. I'll have to take a look when I can hook up to 30 amp service again. It's at the storage lot now, but we are going out again in a couple of weeks.
Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm confused. Turn either on or off, the heat pump, or the ac, or the propane heater through the thermostat is the only way I know of to control those items.

I agree as it happened to me... I fired the furnace and both would come on. Seems there was a recent last couple of months or so thread on this. It happened to me and I finally did a hard boot to OEM setting on the stat. Details are in your stat manual.

Thanks, I've downloaded the manual. That should help a lot when I start messing with the stat.

Before the reboot, I would check the fan Auto/On first. Cheers!

Agreed.
I did the reboot when i was day 1 OTR on the 3wk maiden voyage and needed heat. It was only after the return that when trying to replicate the scenario that i suspected the switch to low/high from auto was likely the culprit. In fact i had to reboot a couple of times during the investigation.
Knowledge is good...lack of heat was borderline panic.

You have 4 settings on the A/C heat pump fan. Auto, lo, med, hi. You must have turned your fan setting to either lo, med, or hi. This would cause the heat pump fan to run and also allow the furnace to run.

In the interim you could manually open the A/C circuit breaker until you figure out the problem.

Yep, a easy mistake to make, fan should be AUTO and of course everything works better if you clean the air filters on the unit regularly.
