We were driving west from Indianapolis through many miles of road repairs. A piece of steel rod was laying on the top of a fence and gouged a "scratch' across both panels as we drove by. Next day I called Foremost. So far they had been very good to me but I wound up talking to several people. The last person I talked to said that he needed to verify where the incident occurred and asked me to remember which mile marker we were near when the steel rod put a groove in the side of our trailer. I told him there were no mile markers because the road was being widened and the contractor probably pulled them out of the ground before they put a blade down on the surface.

It took two months to find out the agent was looking for construction sites that were in Illinois. Once I pointed out the fact that Indianapolis is in Indiana the adjuster immediately sent us a check for $10,000 ($5000 for each panel). I was told that there are 600 rivets on the side of an AS and I got the last of the clad siding.

My guess? I am in there with a $5000 to $7000 group but since it is a dealer there may be more things included than I know anything about.

That’s an expensive fix. That’s a huge panel. Cost will totally depend on where you take it. I’ve had a dealer give me an estimate for 12k on a job than could be done for 5.5-6k all day long. It’s not a concern for you cause insurance is paying but when it comes out of your pocket that hurts.

As for leaving that type of damage. You should never do that. If you don’t want to repair it ask to have the check paid to you and your lein holder. Might as well pay down the loan.

Airstreams have incredible resell value. Yeah you will take a hit when you sell it but I would bet it wouldn’t be as big as you think.

My 2 cents.

If you are just going

to have the panel replaced, $10,000.

If you are going to have the panel replaced with Butt rivets (removing all furniture etc.), $20,000.

PROVIDED Jackson Center does the work.

Have you had body work done there, or know someone directly that has? Thanks.

Scratch repairs

Greetings - As a new Airstream remodeler, I've spent some time getting materials quotes to rebuild my 3 Airstreams (2017 Intl., 2013 Intl., and a vintage 1952 13 panel Flying Cloud). So I know the Panel costs, however the challenge is guessing the repair labor. Lots to dismantle inside, just to remove the interior panels, so the exterior panels can be buck riveted, sealed and so on.
So in a shop, I'm guessing this is a 10,000 to 12,000 dollar repair project. Good luck

Hi

"Live with it" gets into other questions:

1) Is it water tight as is? If so will it stay that way?

2) Is it structurally sound as is? Will it tear / buckle with further use?

3) Is anything impacted internally? ( wiring?) If so will that fail eventually?

Lots of strange routes this could take ....

====

Gotta get to 100 posts ... I'm *sure* we'll get the answer at 100 ...

OK, sorry to keep you all waiting. The winner is Zero $$$ since if Allstate had sent me the $8K it cost to fix it I would have kept the money and left it alone. Or, maybe just incorporate it into a lightning bolt skin for fun. Labor in San Diego is $145/hour.

Wait - we wait for 100 replies with nothing, then get 3 answers - all the same - and it boils down to nothing? [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

$8K is, as we say in Boston, a bahgin.

Although - a patch like a lightning bolt would have been - as we say in Boston - wicked pissah!

Good luck - thanks for finally letting us all off the hook! [emoji3]
