going all electric?

Hi all! I have a 1965 Caravel that I am turning all electric as I don't go boondocking - Has anyone done this?

My Airstream was renovated very nicely by someone who unfortunately left very little room to put in a shower. He mounted the batteries inside in a closet and I thought since no more propane up front, what if I move them outside onto the hitch? I could turn the closet into a toilet/shower combo. Any thoughts?

Also thought about mounting an electric HVAC on hitch too so I could dump the god awful ugly giant A/C on my roof and make it a sky light.

Would love any referrals to anyone in Southern California that is trusted to do great work at a fair price.

A couple of thoughts:

Check the tongue weight rating of your TV, putting batteries on the hitch will greatly increase the weight there, ditto for the A/C.

Search the forums here for mini-split a/c mods that have been done, tons of pics and info there.

Yes, thank you! I figured by removing the propane tanks altogether and moving the spare to the rear bumper, it could handle the weight of 2 AGM batteries. I will check out the mini split unit threads - thank you!

The batteries will be fine on the tongue. You may only need one battery if you are always on hookups. Or one lithium battery that will give more power than 2 lead acid batteries and weigh less than one of them. I think the tongue would hold the AC too just fine also. The tongue is where you want to add weight. I would try to keep the spare up there too. Or in the TV.

We went all Electric and haven't looked back .
Besides we don't have a grey tank and we've done all the non hook up Camping in the past .

We are now Glampers and proud of it .

About the A/C we went with a Coleman Mach 8 it's only 8" high . Our Maxxaire vents are just 5' high when closed the tallest thing on the roof is the digital antenna .

The blue lights are 110 volt all the rest are self contained solar .

I do have a 10# propane tank in the tongue box along with stacking blocks and our fake grape potted plant .

We use the Propane for the BBQ and the Camp Fire .

I designed the tongue box for our Honda 2000i that we used on our 17' Casita when boon docking but those days are over as I sold the Casita when we got the Airstream . But I could put the Honda in it if I wanted to .

Thank you all for your suggestions- they really help! I’m excited to go all electric!!! The idea of using a lithium up front makes sense too! I agree with having some propane for bbq and fire just in case! Now if I could just find the right person to do the work without getting taken advantage of! Thanks!!!!
