Generator Operation

My generator acts like its going to start but doesn't. The shop that inspected the coach said it worked fine during the inspection (as does the former owners). Can anyone walk me through a routine start up? Thanks.

My generator was doing the same. It would crank and crank and crank, but never seem to catch. The problem turned out to be a bad voltage regulator. In actuality, it would start, but then die on the very next stroke because as soon as the generator quit getting power from the batteries and started making its own power, the spark plug would get no power, and so the engine died.

Not saying that's your problem but it's a place to start.

Choke might be stuck in the open position. Move the carburator linkage several times to set the choke.

This might be somewhat simplistic, but have you checked to see that any valve to feed fuel to the generator is actually open? I realize that your genset runs on gas, but I had previously owned a LY diesel pusher that had a propane-powered genset. Often, when getting a propane fill, the valve for liquid propane to the genset would be shut at the tank.
