Fridge thermostat- how badly did I get sc@@wed?

So the fridge in my 03 19 CCD finally bit the dust and would not cool on propane at all and was nearly imposible to light. I did all usual things, check and clean burner, chimney etc. All other gas appliances are fine.

Brought it to my authorized Dometic repair guy in Chicago area who worked on an issue a few years ago. They have been around for a long time. I thought that this time it was theregulator as I have read in other posts but today the report came in that the presure was good at the test gas port just before the fridge.

This time I was told that the problem was a faulty thermostat and out the door it would cost $800.00. Holy crap! I ssked how much it would cost to just replace the fridge and they said they run upwards to $2000.00! I knew they were expensive, but that much?

He explained the rest of the unit is in good shape andwould have recommended replacement if he thought it needed. He said that in order to replace thermostat, they would need to pull the unit out of it’s cabinet. I agreed and ssked if they would also check and clean on and around circuit board as well as vacuum out cabinet.

So the 800 dollar ? How badly did I get taken? Or make me happy and say this is roughly the going rate + or - a few hundred dollars.

Aside from some new tires and a few odds and ends, I have not put much money (thankfully) in my 15 year old trailer.

Comments???

Thanks. Jonathan

Yeah, I'd do it for $400, if it wouldn't make me feel so terribly guilty.
