Freezer working, fridge is not
We just purchased a Flying Cloud 30 FB Bunk (2020 model) and we are getting ready for our first trip. When testing the refrigerator, we noticed that both on power and LP, the freezer seems to get cold but the lower part of the fridge does not cool at all. Has anybody experienced this and what could be the cause and more importantly, how can you fix that?
The trainer was towed down from Michigan but stood there for almost a year.
Btw, the trailer is parked inside covered and is plugged into a 50A outlet.
Thx.

Colognedl,
How long was it powered up before the not cooling conclusion? Any chance for actual fridge temp reading?

Welcome Aboard 👍
Did the little man that turns off the light fall asleep?
Seriously, is the Climate control switch turned off?
A fridge fans helps cold air circulation.

I have not taken notice of this switch! I will check for it when I get back to the airstream later this afternoon. That may be a possibility. Thx

The freezer gets the cold working fluid first, and what remains is used to cool the fridge. It's a slow process on startup, especially in the summer when the temperature differential is less between the heat source and the outside air. Give it about a day of runtime to test before you get too worried about it.

Hi Gary:
I left it on overnight both on AC and on LP mode. In both modes, freezer is cold and lower compartment remains ambient. The flame does come on and I did purge the LP line. It just appears to be the lower fridge part. I did not immediately see the switch that Bob is referring to. But this does not mean that it is not there:-)

It has been several days and still nothing. Freezer cold, fridge compartment warm. Definitely something off.

Is it a two door model? Any chance fridge door is not fully closing or door seal messed up? I've run into both of those.
I'm a fan of the wireless remote temp probe indoor outdoor simple thermometer and put remote in fridge, monitor anywhere it still transmits to.

Exact same issue on a 2020 first trip 28' FC. Freezer ice cold - refrdige nothing. Fan comes on propane is working hard, but nothing.

What brand of fridge is this? Any temp adjustments per your owner’s manual or fridge mfg. instruction booklet in your AS briefcase?
Do you have a thermistor to adjust?
https://www.google.com/search?q=THEr...=airforums.com
Are your batteries OK? Greater than 12.3 volts?
Try putting some frozen blue ice in both the freezer and fridge and wait 24 hours. With two accurate thermometers what are the temps? 24 hours after you remove the blue ice?
BTW never put warm food in either the fridge or freezer. Pre-chill everything at home or in an ice chest whenever possible.
If no joy, maybe a defective control board? What does your dealer and AS say?
https://www.google.com/search?q=2020...=airforums.com
Good luck,

This is the classic symptom of an adsorption refrigerator cratering. In my near 30 years of RVing, I have had two refrigerators die this way.

Any chance that the thermistor is placed too high on the refrigerator fins? If that temperature sensor is placed too high - too close to the freezer compartment, then the fridge section will not cool properly.

Would the OP's 2020 fridge be subject to this?

Pahaska - so how do you get it working? Does the whole unit need to be replaced? It’s brand new and about to go on her maiden voyage.

I went over to our trailer at about 4:00pm and moved the thermister attached to the aluminum fans in back down to the mid point. It was high and close to the freezer bottom. In nine hours the refridge had not cooled at all.
Went over at 6:30 and to my surprise the freezer is at 4 degrees f and the refridge is at an average of 44 degrees f. I used a point and shoot thermomter to check all walls in both areas. The inside temp of the trailer was at 100 F and the outside door of both the refridge and freezer were at 97 F. So, this seems to have done the trick.
I was a little upset, brand new unit, our 5th and purchased from a dealer whom we've known for about 25 years but new to AS and I'd asked that certain things be checked out completely and I trusted they had. So, I thought maybe I'd been told a story, appears not. We'd purchased a Newmar motorhome from them and it was perfect the entire time we owed it so we trusted them.
We now can take our first trip and see how it goes with all functions and also what it's like with the COVID19 hanging around.

Great news, thanks for the update.
Not sure I followed your thermistor adjustments and timing, but in general this mnemonic is easy to remember about which way to move the thermistor :
"It is colder up north."
Also, it can take over 24 hours for thermistor adjustments to be reflected in the actual internal temps.
Have a great trip.

We always turn the fridge on 24 hours before loading and we add ice or bottle with frozen water to help cool it down and as others have said we add pre-chilled or frozen foods into the fridge. We have a small battery powered fan to circulate air in the fridge and we are about to add a condenser helper fan in the fridge compartment to help in hot weather. There are several threads about this addition. When we were in Yellowstone last summer and the weather was hot we supplemented the fridge cooling with ice from the NP vending houses daily. We also propped open the fridge compartment door to improve heat dissipation in the condenser. Hopefully the fan will help in this area. As I understand it newer units may already have a helper fan installed that turns on @ 135 degrees F at the condenser. Ours does not.

That may not be the problem, but it can happen to new units if there are any tiny pinholes in the welds in the tubing. Hydrogen, a necessary part of the refrigerant mixture is a very small molecule and will leak from even a tiny flaw in the welds.
This may not be the problem, but a cold freezer and a warm fridge is the classic symptom.

This permanently fixes that silly thermistor design.
