Floor Plan Layout 22'

I'm posting this twice...once on my rebuild link and on general forum, since this floor plan would be generic for all older 22 foot AS. Sorry if it is over post.

While waiting to get my flight back home I had time to sketch a preliminary drawing of how I (we envision) the layout. I know this is rough and there will be many oops or how can I do that...
  • This was our short list...
  • 2 single beds
  • drop down dinette to convert to a bed
  • wet shower/toilet/vanity
  • 3 foot longer trailer...haha
In order to get this all in the space allotted I will have to make the beds stacked. One going left to right and the other front to back. I thought of bunks, but not enough height to do it right. The stacking should work since I can raise one just high enough to let the other slide underneath and actually create more hiding space.

Any comments would be welcomed if you see a major design flaw that I have not addressed.

Just food for thought- with the galley sink so close is the vanity sink necessary

Hi

I think I'd vote for the "3 foot longer trailer"

Is the dinette really useful with two people? Is it actually big enough for more than two people? Would some sort of fold out "TV tray" setup make more sense for dining?

islandtrader, you may want to go on "vintage Airstream archives" and look through some of the 22' 50s floor plans. Something there may be peak your interest. You're making great progress. Your conceptual floor plan looks good. I just don't know anything about bunk beds. Our 66 Safari is a twin configuration. It has twin beds plus a double. They are all gauchos with "Walter of Wabash" slides. Saves on space until you're ready to hit the sack. Good luck and keep up the progress. Bubba

Hi

One thing that has become a *lot* easier to use over the last 20 years is CAD software. For something like this, it's not super hard to dump it all in. The big advantage is you get the full "how much room here?" or "move this 6" forward?" set of answers without a lot of further effort.

For added fun once you have it all in CAD, dump it to a 3D printer and you have little model pieces to push around

My Recommendation / Comment

Check out the lay-out of a 54-56 Safari. Of all the vintage trailers that I have had, it is a perfect layout.

Heater

You raise a good point. The original set up had a water heater under the bed that goes front to back. Maybe 5 gal or ??

I am going to do a on demand heater...so I am thinking it will go under one of the beds?

Water Heater

Try placing your water heater under the sink.

Hi

Under the sink or next to the shower.... or both

The nice thing about on demand setups is that you can get them in multiple sizes. They can be set up to be zero power until you need the hot water. Short pipes to the point of use are always a good idea.

That's all based on the *assumption* (yes, I know ...) that you can do the same thing in an RV install as in a normal home.
