Floor, Frame, Asbestos

I recently bought a 22' 1963 Safari. I have found some rusted frame on the rear end (where the shower, sink and toilet were), but I was more concerned about what I would find on the front end where the fresh water tank and significantly more rotted floor was found.

Looks like the front end frame is actually in great shape! I will update this post with photos taken during day light, but I have attached the photos I have so far.

My question is: Is it safe to assume that the balance of the frame will be in fair shape? More importantly, does my flooring contain asbestos?

Am I overlooking any considerations?

All feedback is greatly appreciated!

Yes the 9x9 tiles are asbestos. But it’s impregnated with in the tile. Just use a pump sprayer to wet it. This way when it breaks it won’t become airborne. You can bag it an put it in the trash, because it’s sealed within the tile.

Hi - gorgeous trailer! You’ll have many years of happy camping with that!

I’ll play the wet blanket role for a minute though as you’re open to any feedback. Your profile says you’re in FL. One consideration - if your floor tiles contain asbestos - you may want to review local regulations on asbestos removal.

Here’s a link that may help:

https://floridadep.gov/air/permittin...ntent/asbestos

Whether your situation is impacted and to what extent is something local authorities should be able to help you evaluate. Generally not something to be messed with.

Good luck!

I concur on the removal process and add wear a N95 dust mask. Don't wear the cheap dust mask those are useless. Buy a set of Tyvek suits to wear over the top of your clothes. Spray yourself down lightly then strip it off turning it inside out as you take it off and bag.
Asbestos in the dust form is dangerous only when inhaled into the lungs that is why dust abatement is critical, but don't make mud.

Be sure to scrub the interior.
What is important is not tracking any dust into the house and contaminating it that is why you should change outside.

When done right there is little chance of contamination. The asbestos is well contained in the tiles but there will be a little broken loose as you scrape the tiles free.

As for disposal, don't know about Florida but in CA you double bag it and plead innocence if anybody asks.
