Flag Mounting For Dummies...
Hello All,
I has wondering if someone would take the the time to discuss proper flag display on an Airstream.
I have a mast holder that the P.O. tied to the tongue jack, but I removed it because of the poor quality when I repainted the tongue.
If anyone has a picture of a mast holder that attaches to their trailer tongue, or knows of a proper / better way to display the flag(s) please advise.
I see some trailers with multiple flags, whats the flag hiarchy and what is considered tasteful?
Regards,

Most Airstreamers use high quality 12' one inch diameter aluminum flag poles and aluminum holders made by Pole Ease; 6501 Wolf Lake Rd.; Jackson, MI 40201 Phone# 517-536-8022. Poles are $35 each. Single pole holder is $35, 3 pole holder is $38 and a 5 pole holder is priced at $45. They advertise that they do not accept credit cards. Email: swest9751@yahoo.com
As to proper etiquette, it depends on whether you are a WBCCI member or not and are flying your flag or flags at a WBCCI function. If so, only certain officers fly more than three flags. Approved flags for the rest of us are your state flag on the left as you face the front of your trailer. The U. S. flag is flown in the center position and the WBCCI unit flag is flown on the right side.

The USA fly it placed in the middle at the highest point, this is US Flag custom. I then put whatever I like in the other 4 spots. Currently looking for a Texas cannon fly.

If you really want to get into the WBCCI etiquette, go to WBCCI.org and select WBCCI.org and go to page 54 of the WBCCI Blue Book By-Laws where the flag and pennant instructions begin. But, generally speaking, GStevens sums it up pretty well.

I really like the idea of flying at least the U.S. flag at our campsite, but I just don't know where/how I'd transport a 12' flagpole. I don't think I could get it inside the door of the Airstream and it would definitely be too long to carry in the bed of my short bed truck.

Think telescoping 12 foot pole. Carry mine in a 6 inch plastic pipe in the bed of my truck, which is 6 feet.

Thanks everyone,
This sure points me in the right direction! What about displaying after dark. The last time we camped, the guy down the way from us left a huge spot light burning on his U.S. Flag, which if I remember correctly, is proper, but the 1,000,000 candle power bulb lit up both of his neighbors sites on either side, as well as his own.
In general, do you take down your flags every night, or just leave them up, or ???
Thanks again,

A couple of years ago the rules were changed: All WBCCI members, no matter if they are officers or not can fly five flags. I do.
I always fly my:
American Flag
New Hampshire State Flag
New England Unit Flag
Drinking Flag
Then I fly whatever I feel like on the remaining flag pole:
WBCCI Flag
WBCCI / NEU 2nd VP Flag
Don't Thread on Me Flag
Pirate Flag
Canadian Flag
I don't sweat the WBCCI flag rules. I do follow proper flag etiquette in regards to national and state flags.

this works great
Portable 20' Telescoping Flagpole - Camping World
Have used this for the last 4 years, very good quality and easy to store.
In this photo the pole holder is placed under the tongue jack pad, both
the pole and holder are very well made.

Just in case you come north of the border into Canada, you should remember that the Canadian flag goes in the middle, and the US flag in the second position, just so you don't get fragged by a bunch of enraged Canucks.
"In a line of three flags, the National Flag of Canada should be in the centre. The other two flags should, in alphabetical order, be placed to the left and right of the National Flag respectively, from the point of view of the observer facing the three flagpoles/masts (Figure 13)."
Of course when we Canadians are in the US, we fly the Stars and Stripes in the centre and the Canadian flag on the left, as you face the front of the trailer. The flag on the right is usually the unit flag or such other flag as desired. We also spell centre differently.

I fly five
I make 3 and 5 and am working on a 7 (for my unit and my Nascar flag)....
3 for $50 and 5 for $65.... they are heavy duty welded (not riveted) aluminum holders - for poles, I use 6-12 foot painter poles from Lowe's for $12.99 each... plus shipping... Enjoy..

No one answered your question. Yes, if it's not lit it should be lowered at dusk and can be raised again at dawn.
I'll repost this helpful link: USFlag.org: A website dedicated to the Flag of the United States of America - Flag Etiquette

Leave them up
I usually leave them up, all, except for the US, where I take it down at dark - unless I have a light on it.

Good reminder! Leon and I purchased a high quality Canadian flag at the same time we purchased our American flag a few years back. We are going to the 2008 R1R this August in PEI and will be proudly displaying the Canadian flag in the center of our five place flag holder. We treat both flags with respect and honor - as they should be treated: Two great countries, sharing a border and friendship.
BTW, my husband makes flag lights for folks in our Unit. Nearly everyone's display is well lit at night.
