Filiform Corrosion. Is there a link

or could someone direct me to instructions and products on how to deal with this. We've seen some spots and are pretty sure this is what we have. I looked on Amazon at Corrosion X, but there are many products and I'm not sure what to use. Also, it appears it leaves a discoloration (green)?

Any help is much appreciated!

Do a search in the blue box at the top of your page, which is specific to this site.

You will find threads with lots of information.

Thanks. Yes. I did that before posting, but the threads are very long (although extremely informative). I was hoping for a concise step by step. I'm still looking through old threads though.

I am a strong advocate for the various 'search' functions: direct 'search' here on the forum, and - frequently more successful - just typing in the topic I'm searching for into the Google search bar followed by 'airforums.'

Even so, I sympathize with Hopeful1 in this quest for concise information. yes, lots of threads, many of which wander around a bit much for someone with little experience with the curse of filiform corrosion.

Maybe someone already posted a "here's what you do" thread for minor filiform... you know, step by step, with all supplies and materials specified. If there is such a post - or thread - like that, I'd love to find it... would be a great help for a simpleton like me.

I just wiped the areas with CorrosionX at the start and end of each season. It never progressed once I started doing this.

try these. when I found some , i used a needle to scrape to do as little damage as possible. apply corrosion x.
lastly apply clear coat. either airstream clearcoat pen or small amount of nyalic sprayed in a cup and applied with small craft paintbrush.

I have applied the corrosion X a few times now in the past 4 years....

It is a green liquid...it did not discolor the trailer at all...actually my first application, I used way too much, thought I cleaned it all out, but the beltline oozed the stuff on the way down to canopener rally in 2014, lol...it washed off no problems when I got back...

Since that application, I followed better advice...spraying some in a container first, then applying it using like q-tips sparingly....

I used mine for presumed preventative efforts...not for treatment...

I had followed the VERY long thread on this subject for the past 3.5 years, and it would be intense to read ALL of that...

I believe in that thread you will find that the corrosion x will help mitigate worsening of the corrosion, but not entirely prevent the spread...some folks in that thread sanded down the area, used certain color pain or some such (do not quote me there), then applied like the corrosion x then clear coated....but the specifics of that you would need to look up more.

Good luck, hate to hear it!

Corrosion X is very effective. Just spray wherever you are experiencing the start of filiform corrosion. Leave it alone for 24 hours, then wipe off the excess. It will "crawl" into the corrosion and stop it, unless you get too anxious to wipe up drips and runs. You may have to get more aggressive if the filiform corrosion has already gotten away from you, as others have described.

To prevent corrosion, spray all aluminum edges, rivet heads and around all light housings, hinges, etc. Same procedure--leave intact for 24 hours, then wipe off excess. Repeat twice a year.

Easy peasy.
