Fantastic Fan sealer question

It seams that I have a choice when installing my 3 new Fantastic fan vents to either use the gasket or a sealer (I bought the 3M marine sealer) What would you experienced airstreamers recommend?

I did not use the supplied foam gasket. I used butyl tape to seal the fan housing to the trailer top and then put Dicor self leveling around the frames edge and on the screw heads.

Welcome Aboard 👍

3m 4200 under the flange and 3m extreme sealing tape over the top edge.

butyl tape instead of foam gasket and sikaflex. 221 ( i believe) per Lewster's recommendations on the Forums sealants thread. Be careful at the corners and don't overtorque. Both of mine cracked likely at oem install.

I had to go back and confirm which Sikaflex was used...both at diferent times it appears. I had to request the AS dealer, who had never heard of Sikaflex following: White 715 for the 2 FV replacements and White 221 for the Peel n' Seal of the roof seams. They did use the butyl tape as the gasket.

two of Lewster's posts on the Sealants thread.

I use 221 in white for roof seams, 221 grey for windows, doors and general sealing on aluminum and 715, which is a silane terminated polymer (doesn't harden and crack) for major roofing seams and around protrusions like fans, vents, skylights, etc. as it is self leveling."

DON'T apply SikaFlex 221 to anything that you may eventually want to remove, without a replacement going in it's place. It is extremely tenacious and there is no known solvent.. mechanical removal is the only process that works.......and it ain't easy!!!!!"
