Question external 110 volt outlet door-curbside

On my 1985 Airstream 31', Excella; the door covering the curbside 110volt outlets will not snap in the down or closed position. This occurred in Dec, 2004. The detent system seems to be some kind of elastomer that is now preventing the door from staying down in the closed position. I've tried a spray lubricant to no avail.

Any ideas on how to get the door to stay closed.
