Thanks all for the input. Definitely want to do a good estimate. Wonder why estimating air stream projects are so different from say a House. I suppose the unknowns of what you find once it’s stripped. I like the 90-90 rule.

How much will renovation cost? That depends on you and the condition of the airstream you buy. Renovating an airstream is like renovating a home. The better the condition of the airstream the less work that will need to be initially done. Your personal tastes and the amount you will want to individualize your airstream are also factors that will effect the total price.

My suggestion to you is buy an airstream that is in good mechanical condition but needs cosmetic updating. If you buy one that needs a frame off restoration it will be like buying a house that needs to be stripped down to the studs and totally rebuilt.

Good luck and have fun. I bought my 1963 Globetrotter in 2000. Every year I make one major improvement to my GT. By taking it slow and easy, I have not broken the bank and more importantly I have not gotten sick of the project.

Welcome Aboard!! 👍

One thing is certain...you won't be able to do it within the budget you have allotted for the endeavor.
Overspending can be offset in the pride of doing the job...🤩

Sweet Streams...

Take the purchase price of a complete trailer with a straight shell and a good frame then add 5K for a minimum restoration that would include the following:
Axles
Subfloor
AC
Tires
Some trailer hardware
Tools and supplies

Also note that a shop or business that renovates Airstreams on a regular basis will be able to give you a much more accurate idea of cost. They have already been there done that and likely have all the tools and expertise necessary to do the job.

Like a home builder it would depend: are you wanting a basic home, an unusual home, highly custom home and what will your finishes be.

That will affect the price in building construction as it will in Airstreams.

Good luck..first BE SURE TO FIND A REPUTABLE AIRSTREAM, UNDERLINE AIRSTREAM! I am in the process of a PARTIAL renovation of '83 31' Excella. Love my vintage Airstream but I am at close to 30k just repairing, no replacing, the rear frame and floor, sealing the multitude of leaks, plus some new chairs to replace the couch. My banker and DW think I am nuts, and they are probably right.
