Dropped the AS at JC for some repairs

I've been keeping a list of issues since we purchased our AS in July. The biggest issue, I thought, was the fridge would not work on LP or AC.

In another post I asked the forum about a way to fix a cracked weld on the frame for the rear storage compartment. As it turns out, the JC tech believed this to be a fairly common problem caused by the shell separating from the frame. He noted they have a fairly comprehensive fix and didn't seem to indicate it would be big $$, we shall see. The rig had a 2" hitch bolted to the frame in the rear (I suspect for a bike rack) and this issue just underscores, NO BIKE RACKS ON THE BACK.)

I also asked for a quote to replace the entire floor covering with the teak look vinyl (like they use in the new LY. It was a quick reply, about $7,000, ouch. Not today thank you.

Wow, 7k for a new floor? I had no idea it would be that expensive! I wonder if they take out everything before laying the floor?

Keep us posted on what the frame fix costs.

Good luck!

The floor quote was so expensive because they do, in fact, remove the interior to lay the floor.

$7000.00 LOLOLOL ! Why am I laughing ? I asked for a quote on a 30 footer for strip and reseal roof; $7000; I now have a 25 queen and wanted to convert to twins, you guessed it $7000. A friend just had a quote for work at JC, again the quote $7000. Now the above quote, $7000. Sounds like a "canned" answer to me.

7K is pretty steep considering the material is fairly inexpensive. Seems to me it would be far more cost effective to trim around Galley and Twin Beds. Removing the dinette and sofa not such a big deal. This is a task I will take on myself next year.

In a previous career, we would Quote a large $$ when we didn't want the work. We had so much work we didn't need it. So we would "Quote $7000 " LOL LOL

As "Knunut" explains: You quote a cost that will DISCOURAGED business. Such practices are used to control participation or access to a good or service. JC would be swamped if they didn't "block" or discourage time consuming rework jobs. While they didn't say NO! They did - effectively - get the same result. JC even turns down special requests to build out-of-production models. They did so when asked to build a Panamerica for the "Accountant" opening 10/14.
