Drop the belly pan or cut an access hole?
The dealer needs to replace the waste tank sensor on my 2014 Sport (it has never worked, don't ask me how I know). It's warranty work. The sensor is located where it can't be reached without either cutting a hole in the belly pan or dropping the whole thing. The dealer usually cuts a hole and then repairs it.
I kind of freaked out about cutting a hole in my brand new trailer (even if it is just the belly pan). AS has agreed that they may drop the pan to replace.
My question is - is there any reason I would NOT want to drop the pan to repair vs. cutting a hole? I have not a clue - other than cutting a hole just doesn't seem like a good thing if you can avoid it.
Thanks in advance,
Deb

If it is the MicroPulse system, have them cut a hole. That way when it goes south again, you already have access to it. JMHO

I agree. When I had to have my waste valve changed, JC accessed the old valve by cutting open the bellypan and then closing it up afterwards.

Probably more damage is going to happen overall in dropping the belly pan for access than cutting the hole. Let them cut the hole.

Agree with cutting a hole. The belly pan will see far more abuse from road debris.

Thanks all! I appreciate the feedback. Good point too about having access when they need to fix again! My dealer will be appreciative as well, they really didn't want to drop the pan!

In all honesty, the MicroPulse units rarely worked very accurately and were very susceptible to ambient temps. For example, the reading would be vastly different in 50-60 degree than at 70, 80 or higher.
Given it's the black sensor, not to be gross, but you can visually see the tank level from the toilet. I would not waste any time or money replacing a sensor that can easily be done by eye, that rarely was accurate in the first place, but to each their own.

BTW, it's warranty work, so they should drop the pan and re-attach it. I know if you took it to the factory, that's what they'd do. I don't think they'd cut a hole in the belly pan....but then again, refer to my last post on thoughts of replacement in general on that particular sensor. Gray tank, fresh tank, sure, hands down, but black?!

My 2012 was miss-wired from the factory as confirmed by the dealer and I argued to no avail that my brand new trailer should not have a hole cut in the pan because it was a factory installation defect as well as a glaring lack of QC but I was told they would not fix it if I did not agree to the hole. So after fighting about it for 9 months I capitulated and they cut the hole in. It now works somewhat most of the time.
