Dometic refrigerator

Our Dometic refrigerator has a hard time cooling when the outside temp is mid 90s. The coolest it gets in the afternoon is 43 degrees. Is this normal? at night it goes down to about 38 degrees. Also there is a fan that we can hear when it's warm and it stays on even if I turn the fridge off. Is that normal? If it is, is you'r loud? Ours is very loud. So much so that it wakes us up at night.

Thanks for the info. We still have a lot to learn.

What model do you have. Post pict of the refer vents on the outside.

You probably have a side vented refer, no roof vent, and the side vent units have had issues. They all require an exhaust thermal switch controlled fan
to remove the heat.

The 23D thread has some good info on this but let us know what is your model. The pict will show how close together they are located, that can also be a factor.

Your fridge is running with the pack, when it comes to absorption type fridges. 40 degrees cooler than outside is the standard expectation.
There are probably fifty threads about how to improve performance, mostly focused on improved airflow over the external fins.
Our approach was to get a medium size compressor cooled chest (lots of choices!) that we also use on day trips as well. It runs on 12 V, and I snake an extension cord into the truck at the campsite (or lug it to the trailer) to save the battery. You can dial in any temp you want, for caviar as fresh as the day it was harvested. No ice, no mess!

Your fridge performance seems normal.
Those fridges just “sorta” work. Hateful things in hot weather.
