Hi Don

Mamos here from sunny Falmouth in Cornwall UK

We are doing a restoration on a 69 Globe trotter and I would love to learn how to design the interior using sketch up.

I have downloaded the program and I'm ready to go.

I will start going through thee tutorials and get started

I have a background in 2D design so this will add a who new dimension to my work. (see what I did there) Oh well

cheers

Thanks Don for doing the tutorials, and to the others for the sketchup postings. It is turning in to being a very useful tool. I too have yet to master the curved surface renditions, and know I have hardware limitations.

The 60's end caps are the most difficult to create. If you get to the point where you don't think you will master it. PM me and I could send you a copy of the end caps I did for our 63 Bambi.

Thumbs up Design in 3D

Don and others,
I am currently using SketchUp to design the interior of our recently acquired '67 AS Safari 22' as well as a "guest quarters" shed where it will be parked. For me the shed part is fairly easy but the AS work is a challenge with its complex curves. Those who have gone before help a bunch when they post their models to the 3D Warehouse site. So far an AS of the same dimensions has not been posted but it is possible to sufficiently modify other models. For now I'm looking for bed options and associated cabinetry but will soon start on kitchen cabinets & dinette area.

I'm in also - just downloaded the Google SketchUp app. Any 25 footer files available to start with?

Don East SketchUp videos

I want to encourage everyone interested in SketchUp for trailer design to watch Don’s YouTube series of videos. Don is very informative, and I found his videos to be highly useful to me, as I try to learn the basics of SketchUp to come up with a plan for my 1956 Flying Cloud.

At this stage (interior gutted, belly pan removed, frame cleaned by grinding), I want to be able to rough out (1) the interior layout of furniture and cabinets and (2) the major elements of the plumbing system, including gray tanks between the main rails in the belly pan. Don’s videos have me well on my way, and I really appreciate his taking the time to post this excellent series of videos for others to watch. If you wish, you can take your SketchUp model to the level of precise furniture design dimensions for building purposes, but I am not that far yet.

If you get stumped, you may be able to have Don consult and work with you on your SketchUp file.

SketchUp=Cool

We used SketchUp to build the guest cottage sheltering our '67 Safari. For the trailer, I adapted a model from the SU Warehouse to be a reasonably close fit and then modeled the interior. It's a work in process.

Was just referred to this thread. We are renovating a 1972 Overlander. Guess I will start at the beginning and get going here. I have a little photoshop experience, I will be interested to see how this goes! Thanks for putting this together Don.

Nice work! I know you will enjoy your Airstream. I redid our 63 Bambi 8 years ago now. We are still enjoying out Bambi and outing.

New project - 1954 Flying Cloud

One of your students, RankAm, referred me to you. I was looking for AutoCAD files of a 1954 Flying Cloud and he suggested I contact you and learn Sketchup. I'm always up for a new challenge. I have downloaded the program. Where should I go from here? Thanks in advance for any help or information that you can give me.
