30FB work in progress

I have been busy with work but have been able to do a little bit of work on my rendition of the 30FB.

If you look at my profile you can see four current jpgs.

Thanks for the update. We have been busy also. The dishwasher gave out and flooded the kitchen. We had to tare up the floor and replace it. I guess that Airstreams are not the only things that can have floor problems.

Sorry for your problems Don, I know what's involved when your house has flooded and I don't envy you.

Also, something that a lot of people miss which has ruined a lot of floors in homes is the hot water hose to the washing machine. It is naturally weakened by the heat from the water much quicker than the cold water hose and there has been many a family return home (especially from a vacation) to find the house flooded. I recommend that you buy the hose which is reinforced on the outside with metal braid for additional strength and be sure to turn the water off to this appliance when you're going to be gone for more than a day.

Crusty, thanks for the flooding information. Part of our problem was the cheap dishwasher that was installed before we bought our home. The new one we have has a special pan installed to prevent the same failure. We'll see.

Don, an Airstream Liner full of Karma to you for what have spearheaded here. I found Sketchup last year when trying to design what I wanted for the '56 interior layout. My skills don't come close to yours and I'm past much of my need for Sketchup now. But I can tell you that if your thread had been available then I wouldn't have bumbled along so clumsily with it.

You are doing a wonderfully unselfish service for those doing restorations. Thanks!

Thanks

FC7039 and Sugarfoot. Thanks for the positive comments. I've been a teacher my whole life and somehow I just can't stop.
More lessons will be coming soon. The software is on it's way.

Hi Don,
I've watched many of the tutorials and have done a few small projects using SketchUp. I'm in! I'm an Art Director by day so using design software is not new to me but I have tried other 3D modeling tools and have found them to be too difficult to learn for how infrequently I would use it. SketchUp is MUCH easier to use than anything I've tried. I'm sure I'll have questions as I attempt to do more and more difficult models.

BarryIowa, The software is in. The next set of lessons will be on cabinet design and construction. Welcome aboard and I'm always open to comments and suggestions. The input form an Art Director is always good. I agree SketchUp is much easier and quicker to use than other 3d programs. I'm always open to question.

sketch up rocks - overlander interior

Hi Don, great to see so much interest in your Sketch-Up endeavors. I've been using the package for a few years for retail interiors, packaging, point of sale plus a few home improvement projects. Modeling our Airstream made perfect sense, recommend it to anyone.

Below are sample snapshots of my humble efforts on our '56 Overlander interior. I've focussed on interior layout only for now because thats my priority for refurb next month!

I'd like to complete the exterior too. One bit I can't quite figure out - how to model the lovely sloping back end. Any useful tips on that detail would be appreciated.

David F, thanks for posting your work with SketchUp. From the online information I get there a lot of people out here using these instructions and creating Airstream Trailer designs. I hope more will feel brave and share their designs.

Hi David,
Nice work on your renderings. I hope to do the same thing. I have a lot to do before I get to the point where I'll need the renderings but I do look forward to it.

instruction Cabinet Design

Well I'm back at it again. The series 10 instructions will follow the design process of a kitchen cabinet I'm building for our kitchen in our house. This instruction will also apply to the designing of cabinets for your Airstream. The cabinet is a base cabinet with 4 pullout "drawers" for the storage of canned goods etc.
