What grip range should be used for repairs?

You are typically riveting a few sheets of aluminum together, so a large grip range is not really needed. The "generic" clecos that Vintage Trailer Supply sells will get you from 1-1/4" which was more than enough for the work I did (and I did a shell-off with panel replacements, vent replacements, etc.).
