Can Grey Water Vent be source of Musty Odour?

Looking for some advice.

We've got a 2002 19' Bambi and over the last couple of trips have noticed a mild but intermittent musty odour that seems to be coming from under the bed and the fridge.

Thought I must have a leak so today exposed the area under the bed and also the frig. Everything seems dry, there is no visible evidence of a leak - and no musty odour today.

Am now starting to wonder if it is possible that the odour could come from the grey water vent? (located under the bed).

Thanks,

Jay

Just a couple of thoughts. Looking at your trailer lay out I see that the shower is next to the bed. Do you make sure that there is always water in the shower drain trap. Where do the vents go up through the roof.

Water can get under floor coverings and cause rot problems you can't see.

Fairly certain the shower is not the source - we use it regularly - pretty much on a daily basis - so the only opportunity for the P-Trap to empty is when we are travelling - and there is no musty odour inside the shower/toilet area - only towards the head of the beds (we have bunks and the head of the beds are at the frig end) and in the storage space under the frig.

Think I will change the vent anyway - it will either deal with the issue or eliminate it as a possibility.

Thanks,

Jay

get a moisture meter

I could not see the moisture under my bed, until I removed the plastic covering, removed the carpet, and removed the carpet pad. The plywood underneath was soaked.

The only way to know is either remove all flooring or get a moisture meter with probes that will reach through.

I had a similar odor. Turned out to be a decomposing mouse. Cleaned him out and odor went away.

I'm envious - we didn't really get our "Superior" fix this year - and we're missing it - enjoy your trip home.

It's actually one of my sons heading back to Montreal after a summer in Alberta. My wife and I just got back last night from a dash to Florida. See where did you wake up this Sunday. Jim

Alan/Perry,

Thanks for the tip - will work to peel back at bit more of the floor covering and see what I can find.
