My dishes all ended up on the floor.
So to prevent that I'm adding non-skid inside the cabinet (My bad)
AND I want to change the cabinet latch.
I searched but didn't find the answer.
I know the latch is a "Southco". I don't know the strength.
It's said you can tell by the color of the spring, but I'll be darned if I see a spring, open or closed.
Amazon has the 10# version, and it's a real Southco. Their 5# units are a knockoff.
Nothing on the latch indicates the strength (not much 3#?)
If I had to guess, I'd say the guts are silver. 5#?
Before I drill new holes, I'd like to stick with Southco......once.
Check on EBay, you can usually find the 3 different tensions available there. Blue, silver and black springs can be seen when the latch is open with a flashlight shining on it. Not much difference between black and silver unless you have them side by side. 10 lb has cured open doors, I used 2 on a particularly troublesome drawer.
I replaced all the black plastic latches with these. They are adjustable, and I haven't had a cabinet or closet ever open again, and I travel some pretty rough roads when boon docking. Just a thought.
The latch is a Southco.
Amazon has the 10# (44 n.) spring. $7.
I guess we got the 5# stock from the factory, but it feels like 1#.
I was afraid the ten pound would be too strong, but it's not. It feels like 4#.
I don't know how they measure the "pull", or maybe I'm just stronger than I look!
It's back together without adding any new holes!
