Boatdoc's Argosy poised and ready.
Hi everyone;
After almost two years of work, my Argosy is finally ready! I'm posting some pics along with a description.
My wife waiting for me to hook up
Partial view of wraparound sofa with drawers
View from the rear (Note: curtains made by my wife)
We decided to try our own hand at sewing sofa cushions for our wraparound sofa. I think they came out very well. Under the sofa, note the storage drawers retained by SS detent locks.
Complete new kitchen cabinet with three burner SS stove top. We have reused the original 1973 pea green double sink since it was in excellent condition. Under the counter top, installed was a grey water tank, water distribution manifold, furnace, and plenty of storage space.
Double bed includes custom ordered 32" x 74" mattresses. 11" thick with SS coated springs and special pillow tops. Bed covers were made by my wife Kay.
Small wall mounted lamp should provide plenty of light. In addition, infrared ceiling light for night use. Stenciling, decorating, as well as painting of the interior was done by my wife.
Bathroom's tub was restored and re-coated. Shower curtain and decorations, courtesy of my wife Kay.
Bathroom sink sports a new cabinet and SS sink.
SS bumper storage box will house the necessary items to maintain trailer's utilities. Please note, that all of the trailer lighting (aside of 110V) is LED inside and out.
If more information is needed or anyone is interested in details, please let me know. Thank you "Boatdoc"

Now all you need to do is attend the International Rally in Madison, WI next year and enter the Concourse de Elegance (or however it's spelled!).

I've been following this project since before you started on the frame. The frame, by the way, was a work of art. The rest of the restoration followed in like fashion. Congrats on a great job.
Can I be just a little envious now.....!!???

Very nice work! You both have done an excellent job. Reward yourself with a nice long relaxing trip. My Aunt just finished the curtains for my trailer but I have had too many things come up to get it finished. I just finished cutting down 20 trees at the house over the weekend - need to take care of domestic stuff before I can play in the trailer.

It really does look great Boatdoc. I especially love your craftsmanship on the front lounge area. You deserve a nice long vacation in your new trailer.

Sweet,
The mega coats of varnish really show off the Okoume grain. Like the seafoam green and the wraparound is quite nice.
All in all I say
WICKED NICE !!
Looks like the lower outside Red has a little USMC influence going on there.
Now enjoy that rig. DG

Wonderful restoration Boatdoc and Kay.
Are the steps original? I seem to be missing the lower step on my ‘76.

Hi Wayne and Sam; In order not to disturb person sleeping I have installed marine type night pilot house light which emits infra red light. This light will not cause one to wake up when turned on, but it is enough light to see at night even to get dressed up by. Thanks, "Boatdoc"

Hi Sergei;
Yes, the steps are original with exception of the step plates. In order to reduce weight I have replaced them with Aluminum plates which were form duplicated. The aluminum plate I have used, is 3/16" thick. This got rid of almost 4 lbs of unwanted weight. My Arg came with double folding step, however the storage lock was not functional and the guide rails were worn out. Using 3/4 square SS tubing I have cut one of the four walls open so that pins can travel inside the tubing. The bend in the tubing rails was simply achieved by cutting it and re-welding it at a proper angle. At the outside end, a half of 3/4" piece of round SS tubing was welded to provide a positive lock for the guide pins when steps are extended. The lock which secures the steps while stored, was made by welding a 1/4" ID SS tube 3/4" long, across a very hard 5/16" SS rod, to serve as a pivot point. A small SS lock washer was welded to the lock rod as a attaching point for SS spring to keep steps secured in place. In the future I may look into figuring out how I can attach a piece of belly skin to close off the steps when stowed away. Because of the demands placed on me by my business, at this time I just want to go camping. In the fall and the winter when the business slows down I will fine tune things including installing the Fantastic Fan.
PS: I found out from Airstream of OHIO that Camper Repair has purchased a remaining stock of vintage Airstream parts. I am not sure if they have a web site, but the phone number is 205-665-2531. Good luck and thanks, "Boatdoc"

Hi Doorgunner:
It has been a long drawn out process and I cannot believe myself That I did it all. It is a shame however that this trailer will not only out live me, but possibly many more generations. I sure could use another hundred years to enjoy it.
We are planning the shakedown trip this weekend to Promised Land State Park in Pa, providing they accept our reservation.
Dry, my Arg weighted in at 4680 lbs. My hitch hook-up is set up as well as the 600 lbs weight distribution bars brought the truck down within a 1/8". Front truck fender squatted down 1/8" more than the rear, but my trailers front mounted water tank is empty, and truck bed was not loaded with the necessary camping stuff. With added weight I should be on the money. I will post after the shakedown run. Thanks, "Boatdoc"
